Fire Emblem: Three Houses Live Stream – Part 1 of ?

Not sure if I’m going to follow through on streaming Fire Emblem: Three Houses in its entirety, but our adventure at least starts here! Our hero Jetta gets entangled with three student leaders from Officer’s Academy and is not long after assigned to teach at the school! What house will she choose? Along the way, we also talk about potential romance partners, ConBravo 2019, other great strategy games, and…crests.

Shout-outs!

An Overwhelming First Day at School with Fire Emblem: Three Houses

The opening moments of Fire Emblem: Three Houses start out as you’d expect if you’ve had any experience with the franchise. Dropping into a small-scale conflict, the battle is used to introduce you to your own player character and the main protagonists. From there, your party would gradually grow as you ran into new heroes throughout your journey.

This latest entry in the franchise doesn’t do that at all. In fact, it’s essentially the opposite. While this isn’t necessarily a surprise, it did make the onboarding process a bit bumpier than I’m used to.

Dr. Mario World and the Exploitative Nature of Free-to-Play Games

Dr. Mario World plays a cruel game of rope-a-dope with its players. Many of the levels can be beaten within reason. Be that as it may, the buzzsaw is as brutal as it is inevitable.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled Impressions

Growing up as a stubborn Nintendo loyalist, I dismissed any kart racer not named Mario Kart. Why bother with the rest when you already know the best? That ignorance would come back to bite me.

During my 2nd go-around in college, a classmate of mine introduced me to Crash Team Racing. With her PlayStation at the ready, we argued over which kart racing series was better while leaving me in the dust. Though this argument continues to this day, that classmate is now my wife and I guess you could count that Crash Team Racing session as our first date.

Mario Kart may still rule the roost, but there’s a segment of gamers who share a deep love and nostalgia for Crash Team Racing. And rightfully so, as even I have to acknowledge that Crash’s kart racer was a solid game. Decades later, Crash Team Racing gets the remaster treatment in Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled.

The Great Fire Emblem Debate: Classic or Casual?

For decades, the Fire Emblem franchise’s most unique feature was its inclusion of perma-death. Should a character fall in battle, they’re gone for the rest of the campaign. In a game where characters can develop into fighting machines while also going through their own mini story arc alongside of the main campaign, any loss of life is devastating. Though I’ve gotten pretty good at protecting my heroes throughout, I will unashamedly save scum or redo levels entirely if it means I can save lives and keep my options open.

Starting with Fire Emblem: Awakening, players got an alternative. Prior to the start of a campaign, one can choose to play in Classic mode with perma-death on. Or, you could choose a new Casual mode, where fallen heroes simply retreat for the remainder of a level. In this case, these fallen heroes can return  at the start of the next mission.

This split has created quite the discussion amongst fans of the series. With Fire Emblem: Three Houses out now, it’s bound to heat up again. Which do you prefer? Is there a “right” way to play? Take it for what you will, but this is my approach to Classic vs. Casual in modern Fire Emblem games.

Discussing the Upcoming Role Queue System from a Overwatch Scrub’s Perspective

Recently, Blizzard announced that Overwatch was about to receive a fundamental change in the way that matchmaking works. Once the next major patch goes live, it will introduce a 2-2-2 Roll Queue system that will force teams to be comprised of two tanks, two healers, and two DPS heroes. Up until now, players were free to create any composition of heroes.

As an Overwatch silver league scrub on PS4 who mostly plays quick match, I don’t think I’ve ever run into the meta-defining GOATS comp, which this update partially aims to shut down. Once this recent update goes live, I almost certainly never will. However, even at my rudimentary level of competence and understanding, there are reasons for me to be excited (and concerned) for this update.

Dr. Mario World Live Stream

That did not go as planned. A myriad of technical issues marred this stream, and I’m sorry it didn’t meet the standards that I set for myself. However, it was my first mobile gaming live stream and I needed to take these bumps! Even so, we had a great time chatting about the differences between Dr. Mario World and its predecessor, shared embarrassing stories, and had a cool chat about music and how it’s impacted our lives in negative ways! Also, before the stream crapped out, I was able to sneak in a bit of music vinyl show-and-tell!

How I broke my iPhone X in Paris

How R&B music messed up my understanding of love and romance
