The Mess That Was Street Fighter 1

The conversation around Street Fighter never starts with the original. Most of the time, we begin by waxing nostalgic around Street Fighter II. In current times, we jump straight to Street Fighter V or even go as far back as Street Fighter IV when talking about the “good old days” of this modern Street Fighter era.

But rarely do we talk about the original Street Fighter. Released in 1987, it was one of the first fighting games on the market, one of the first to use unique special move commands, while introducing the world to Ryu, Ken, Sagat, Adon, Birdie, Gen, the guy who looks like Balrog but isn’t, and a handful of other fighters never to be mentioned again. Does it deserve to be lost in the shuffle?

Catherine: Full Body and Revisiting Old Games

Originally released in 2011 and remastered for modern consoles in 2019, Catherine: Full Body makes its presence felt on the Nintendo Switch today. It’s an opportunity for new players try one of gaming’s most unique titles while also having a bit of new material for experienced players.

My strong affinity for the game will probably be enough motivation I need to purchase it. However, carving out the time to actually play through it is a much more difficult challenge.

My Fave Games in Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (So Far)

Not every game in Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics is a bop. Shooting Gallery is marred by terrible motion controls that need to be reset every few seconds. Toy Boxing largely boils down to being a button-masher. And the card game War is never fun in any form.

Even so, the good outweigh the bad by a solid margin. Within that “good” pile also exist of a few faves that I keep coming back to. When I boot up Nintendo’s latest compilation, these are my go-to games!

Easing Out of Animal Crossing: New Horizons

From year-round events, to hundreds of villagers to meet, to the struggle of paying off your mortgage, Animal Crossing games are generally designed with longevity in mind. With New Horizons, it’s probably the best equipped in the series to keep players engaged for years to come.

I’ll certainly pop back in from time-to-time to manage my turnips and partake in major events. However, my daily grind is probably over at this point. And that’s okay.
