Return of Retro Game Streaming?

Retro game streaming has been something I’ve wanted to do since I started doing this seriously at the beginning of 2018. However, it fell pretty low on the priority chain as my laundry list of technical things to fix piled up. On top of all the basic things I struggled to sort out – such as broadcasting a stream with a decent picture quality at a steady frame rate – retro hardware added additional obstacles to work through.

Knowing that I couldn’t solve everything at once, all of my retro-specific issues were put aside in order to broadcast a solid modern stream first. After months of research, tweaking of settings, breaking of stuff while live on-air, and the purchase of numerous pieces of hardware, I think I’m finally [knock on wood] at a point where I can finally play old games more regularly.

Metroid Prime and Console First-Person Shooter Controls Before The Advent of Dual Analog

Once upon a time, dual analog controls for first-person shooters wasn’t a thing. Even in an era where we had dual-analog controllers, it would take a number of years before developers would come up with that scheme and make it the standard. Going back recently to play Metroid Prime on the GameCube, its lack of dual-analog control has proven to be really jarring.

Arcade1Up Street Fighter II Review

It’s been a lifelong goal of mine to own a Street Fighter II arcade machine. Despite owning multiple copies of the game across almost every platform I own, there’s nothing quite like playing this classic in its original form. Placing a quarter at the top of the control panel before rubbing shoulders against your opponent in the heat of battle is the experience that millions the world over had with this classic.

Trying to buy and maintain a vintage Street Fighter II cabinet from the 90s is a nightmare in modern times, but Arcade1Up aims to bring the arcade experience home in a way that’s the closest we’ve ever come to owning the real thing. With its Street Fighter II cabinet, you can play head-to-head against your friends or the AI in three legendary titles in one machine. Is this my dream come true?

Onto the next one…

A little while back, I completed New Super Mario Bros. U in a series of live streams. Beating the game was never part of the plan. However, after that first stream, we were almost half way through and I was having a lot of fun. It was a rare moment for me, as I don’t really take the time to go back and revisit old games.

Games I Want on the Rumored Nintendo 64 Classic

Rumors are swirling that the Nintendo 64 Classic is on the way. Most recently, Nintendo UK uploaded the manuals to 19 Nintendo 64 games on their website for seemingly no reason. Maybe they appear as some sort of Virtual Console release on Switch, and the notable omission of Super Smash Bros. gives me a bit of pause, but my gut is telling me the Nintendo 64 Classic is real and is happening soon!

I know I just bought a Nintendo 64, but that won’t stop me from hopping on the Nintendo 64 Classic hype train. Here are the games I want to see on it!
