Resident Evil blazed the trail for horror games in the 90s. Though its hit some bumpy patches here and there, the franchise has recently regained its footing to the delight of many. Having gotten the opportunity to play the demo for Starlink: Battle for Atlas at Fan Expo 2018, I thought I had a good idea of what I was getting myself into. I was expecting to play a game that featured a series of dogfights in orbit and land-based battles on the surfaces of different planets. Those elements are in there, and are still the best part of the game. What I wasn’t expecting was the fact that those are only smaller parts of a much grander framework.
We come across Mr. Oshiro and his hotel in third chapter of Celeste! I love how the mess in the hotel and the bags strewn about represent the emotional baggage that keeps Mr. Oshiro tied down to this hotel. One of the best levels in the game with phenomenal music that builds up with crazy drum solos!
I apologize for the encoder crapping out towards the end of this clip, which threw my voice out of sync. Still trying to sort through that issue, but I think I’m getting closer to squashing it once and for all!

Modern Tomb Raider has been one of my favourite franchises of the past few years, but there are aspects of its first two games that prevented them from being universally celebrated. The first was a commercial hit and a game I enjoyed a lot, but it also leaned a bit too heavily on the Uncharted playbook. I felt that the sequel took the right steps towards bringing the game back towards its roots, but it was still a bit too heavy on the gun play and the game was largely overlooked due to it being a timed Xbox One exclusive. Third time’s a charm? Shadow of the Tomb Raider closes out this era of Lara Croft with an adventure that is as high stakes as it gets.
