SteamWorld Dig Review

What lies in the depths of Tumbleton? Rusty is about to find out SteamWorld Dig. I played this game on the Nintendo 3DS, though it’s available on just about everything at this point. Having inherited a mine from his uncle, he decides to explore it for himself.

I’ve kind of been ducking this game for years, as it just didn’t sound like a game that I’d be interested in. After receiving it as a gift and with nothing to do on a train ride to Montreal, I decided to give it a go. Boy was I ever missing out on an awesome game.

Sushi Dice Review

From Sushi Go!, to Sushi Draft, and now Sushi Dice, it’s hard to ignore the emerging trend of sushi-based tabletop games. At this point, I’m all for it, as long as the games are good. Sushi Dice is a frenetic dice game where sushi chefs work to prepare dishes faster than their rivals. Should your next board game night menu feature this one?

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Core Set Review

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Core Set puts you in the cockpits of some of the most iconic ships in the galaxy. Whether you’re piloting an X-Wing or a TIE Fighter, you’ll be whizzing around in space, blasting enemy ships while evading oncoming attacks. Looking a a full setup of the game with a number of separately sold expansion ships is a sight to behold, but you’re only getting three ships in the base set. Is a three ship battle still one worth fighting?

Flip City Review

At first glance, Flip City looks like a city building game along the lines of Machi Koro. Both share city building as a backdrop, along with similar art styles and colour palettes. What sets Flip City apart is that it’s not really a city building game at all. In reality, it’s a press your luck game with some deck-building thrown into the mix. However you want to classify it, is this small title worth your time?

Super Mario Maker Review

In the early 1980s, Nintendo designed the first Super Mario levels by hand with graph paper. Decades later, Nintendo released Super Mario Maker on the Wii U. With the use of the touchscreen on the Wii U Gamepad, players of all sorts can whip together a functional level within a matter of minutes. Is this the tool that puts Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto out of business?

Star Wars: Imperial Assault Review

Star Wars: Imperial Assault is a game designed to capture the essence of ground-based combat in the Star Wars universe. Heroes with blasters and lightsabers take on the Imperial army, which features Stormtroopers, Probe Droids and even AT-STs. Heck, even the likes of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader make cameo appearances here. Is this the Star Wars board game you’re looking for?

Machi Koro Review

Machi Koro by IDW Games puts 2-4 players in the shoes of the city’s new mayor. To prove your worth to the citizens of your city, you’ll build a plethora of new shops, businesses and parks as a means of raising money to ultimately fund the creation of four major landmarks. The first player to successfully build all four landmarks is declared the winner.

We’ve had this game in our collection for quite some time, though I’ve failed to put words to it until now. It’s one of Steff’s favourite games, but it’s also one I managed to ruin. What the heck happened?

Rare Replay Review

Rare Replay is a celebration of the famed development studio that made Donkey Kong Country and Goldeneye. While these two smash hits do not appear on this 30-game compilation, almost everything else in their catalogue is here, from Jet Pac to Viva Pinata 2. And for the price of $30, this appears to be an amazing value on paper. Does the package deliver on its promise?

Camel Up for iOS Review

Camel Up is an award-winning board game from Steffen Bogen and Z-Man Games. Though my hype for the physical game has cooled with time, I still think that it’s a novel and entertaining title with the right people at the table. This time, it makes the digital jump on iOS platforms. Well, to be more precise, it crawls to the iOS in a sad and sorry state.

Batman: Arkham Knight Impressions

Nine months after the events of Arkham City, the Batman’s rogue gallery hit the streets of Gotham for their most heinous act of terrorism yet. Backed by an army of soldiers, vehicles, a mysterious new adversary, and enough chemicals to corrupt the entire eastern seaboard, Bruce Wayne really has his hands full this time. With the stakes being higher than ever, Rocksteady and Warner Bros. are hoping that Batman: Arkham Knight is the biggest and best Batman game to-date.
