Join Me for Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid Tonight at 8:00pm EST

It’s (almost) Morphin’ Time! Join me tonight at 8:00pm EST for our first stab at Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid on the Nintendo Switch! I love tag-based fighting games, and this one has fighting game pros like Clockw0rk, Shady K, and Justin Wong as part of the development team! It might be a budget title, but I’m hoping it punches above its weight class!

Aspects of the Nintendo Labo VR Kit I’m Excited For

My initial experiences with Nintendo Labo have been mixed. Granted, will acknowledge that I’m not the target audience for these products. However, based on my time with the Toy-Con 01 Variety Kit, it was more fun to build the toys than it was to actually play them. Right now, they’re all stacked on top of my desk and I have no idea what to do with them. Still have Toy-Con 02 Robot Kit in the box, but my wife and I do have plans of building that one someday. Have heard that Toy-Con 03 Vehicle Kit did a better job of providing kids with a meatier gameplay experience, but I don’t have that kit yet.

Nevertheless, Nintendo isn’t waiting for me to catch up. The upcoming Toy-Con 04 VR Kit is set to be released on April 12th. While I do have some concerns with some of these toys being as gimmicky as those found in the Variety Kit (I’m looking at you, bird and wind pedal), there are aspects of this package that really excite me.

Let’s Play Paper Mario – Part 5

Surprise! I get stuck in Dry Dry Desert. By the end, I do get through it with a little help from the chat. But it gives us lots of time to talk about a host of topics, such as Captain Marvel, the MCU at large, Toronto Comicon, Breakout Con, the recent Nintendo Nindies Showcase, Google Stadia, and more! I close out the stream with an epic rant about all things related to making gaming content and the race for money and fame!

Anthem’s Tomb Challenges Are Not Great

For as much as I’ve enjoyed Anthem up to this point, mission design has not been its strong suit. The game goes a long way to dress up its rigid approach with cutscenes and tons of dialogue, but the facade isn’t enough to hide the fact that you’re doing the same handful of tasks repeatedly. If the combat and flying wasn’t as great as it is, I may have dropped this game by now.

Having said all that, I’ve finally hit a point where the mission structure has changed. But now the game is worse?

Video Games? Why Would I Play Those?

Though I’ve managed to keep the daily post streak going, there hasn’t been much for me to write about in terms of new gaming reviews and impressions. Let’s talk about that for a moment.

Does the Future of Game Streaming Truly Start Now With Google Stadia?

The concept of streaming games to home platforms is not new. Off the top of my head, Sega was trying to do it in the mid-90s with the Sega Channel, but I know there were efforts even before then. More recently, services like OnLive and PlayStation Now have been trying their hand at the approach.

At the keynote for GDC 2019, Google unveiled Google Stadia, their new game streaming platform. In short, it will allow players to game from any instance of Google Chrome or Chrome OS, running games with modern graphics at resolutions up to 4K, at frame rates up to 60 fps, with almost whatever controller you have. It’s also got deep hooks with YouTube streaming, allowing gamers to stream and interact with viewers in all new ways. All of this will be playable for those in the US, Canada, UK, and Europe later in 2019.

I have some serious reservations about what Google’s promising here. However, my concerns about controller input delay, game library, broadband access, and data caps might be a moot point in the long run. What Google just showed us appears to be the future of gaming.
