Some of My Noteworthy Posts of 2020

Video games might be the primary focus of In Third Person, but the site and platform at-large ultimately goes where I go. In years past, this meant diving deep into the realm of fighting game strategy. Or catching up on years of comic book lore. Or exploring the world of tabletop gaming.

In 2020, while we certainly talked a fair amount about games, In Third Person branched out in a few key ways. For one, much of my content this year focused on streaming. Whether I was sharing what little expertise I had in order to help others improve their output or providing you with insight on my life as an aspiring streamer, I used this site as an outlet for those thoughts.

And then there was the whole pandemic thing. Though most of my discussion on the matter happens on stream, I wrote a few deeply-personal posts regarding the current state of the world. I don’t regret using this platform to share my feelings of concern and sadness. If anything, I wish I spent more time focusing my thoughts on the pandemic into posts rather than the scattershot ramblings I’m prone to on stream.

Before we close the book on 2020 (good riddance), I just wanted to take a moment to highlight a few of my posts. Not sure if “favourite” is the right word here, especially considering the subject matter of some. But I think this collection of posts provides a snapshot of where I was at this year.

My Favourite Professional Wrestlers of Today

It’s SummerSlam weekend! Since it’s taking place in my back yard, of course my wife and I will be there! Though we’ve been to wrestling events together in the past, we’ve never done a pay-per-view together before, where the stakes are at an all-time high. I still vividly remember attending Wrestlemania 18 and I want the thrill that comes with a major wrestling event of that magnitude. Titles will change hands! Winners will be determined! And maybe…just maybe…Brock Lesnar won’t win again? I hope so!

To celebrate, I’ve made a pair of posts about favourites. Today is the list of my favourite wrestlers today. Tomorrow is the list of my all-time faves! No better time than the present, so let’s go!

Why Kitana is My Favourite Mortal Kombat Character

Recently, the ninja princess armed with bladed fans was revealed to be the latest character included as part of Mortal Kombat 11‘s base roster. Though she’s a fan favourite, her late reveal relative to the game’s release date gave me concerns that she wasn’t going to make it this time. Thankfully, she and I will have the chance to slice and dice again!

Though she didn’t solidify herself as my favourite Mortal Kombat character until Mortal Kombat 9, she’s always been near the top of my list. Here’s why!

My 5 Favourite Characters in Fighting Games

Character choice means everything in a fighting game. It’s about the moves that your character has. The strengths and weaknesses they have. Their look. Their back story. All of this ends up being a reflection of you and how you like to play any given fighting game.

For the fighting games I play, this very much applies to me. Characters that I use need to look cool and fit my play style. If they don’t fit both, I have a hard time being effective with them or finding the motivation to get better. As such, here’s my five favourite fighting game characters!
