PlayStation 3D Display Review

The PlayStation 3D display is not your ordinary TV. This unit was specifically designed for gamers looking for a high-quality gaming display that supports 3D, is small enough to work in smaller spaces such as dorm rooms, all for a reasonable price. When this television came out at $500, I thought it was a decent value. However, most places now sell this at $300, which seemed like a steal to me. Combine the price with the fact that I’ve moved into a smaller space and this TV seemed like the perfect fit for me.

Having used this as my gaming TV since I moved into the condo, I thought I’d share my thoughts on it. Does this gaming-centric display stand head and shoulders above any number of other television choices on the market?

Looking for a Mass Effect 3 Review?

If you’ve been waiting for a Mass Effect 3 review, I’m sorry to keep you waiting. It’s a long game and I’m doing what I can to get through it at my own pace. Without spoiling anything, I can say that it’s a quality product, though I’m still debating in my head exactly how good it is and where it stacks up on the pantheon of Mass Effect games.

Random Memory of Playing Street Fighter II on the Sega Genesis

Did you ever play Street Fighter II on the Genesis with the default 3-button controller? I’m sure a lot of you did. Didn’t it suck to have to hit the start button every time you wanted to switch between punches and kicks? Imagine trying to sell a control scheme like that through now.

Street Fighter X Tekken Review

The fighting game genre has no shortage of odd pairings. From Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe to Sonic the Hedgehog in Smash Bros, it seems like we’d seen it all. Then in 2011, Capcom shocked the fighting game world by announcing a crossover between the top 2D fighting game franchise and the top 3D fighting game franchise. Having seen how poorly 2D fighting games and 3D fighting games have mixed in the past, people had a lot of questions about how a Street Fighter and Tekken mash-up could possibly work. Is Street Fighter X Tekken the best of both worlds? A failure like past attempts to mix the genres? Or did it turn into it’s own thing?

My Gaming Setup – Early Days of Condo Living Edition

(not my gaming setup)

For the last 14 years, I’ve had the benefit of having a pretty sweet space to use for my gaming setup. All my stuff was set up in my parent’s basement, where I had a lot of space for shelving, a big TV and enough room should I need to entertain a number of people with video games.

Now that Steff and I are in our condo, I’m going to have to downsize, which I’m fine with. I’ll gladly reduce the size of my gaming space for the other benefits available to Steff and I in our new life. While my setup is far from complete, I thought I’d give you a sneak peek at what I’m working with for the time being.

Out Now: Mass Effect 3 and Street Fighter X Tekken

While I can’t speak for everyone, this very well could be my biggest new release week of the year. My two most anticipated games of 2012 are out now, and I’ll probably be making a bee line to the store before work to grab copies of both.

Coming Soon: Mass Effect 3

To label myself as “excited” for Mass Effect 3 would be an understatement. Anything less than “giddy like a little school girl” would be selling my excitement short. Mass Effect 3 is my most anticipated game of 2012 and it’s coming out in just a few days.

Off-Topic: Silence of the Jett

My voice used to play a much larger role in my life and my livelihood. In my first college tenure, I trained to become a radio announcer. After graduating, I got a job as a part-time radio announcer for a country radio station, handling the overnight shift and weekend weather reports. When that fell through, I took matters into my own hands, and started a podcast with my former radio broadcasting classmate, which was successful in its own right. Off the strength of word-of-mouth, we peaked at over 1,000 subscribers. Whether I was being paid to do it, or doing it for fun, I loved being a public personality.

Then one day, it all disappeared, and I haven’t said anything on a public medium in years. What happened?

Out Now: PlayStation Vita

One of the year’s biggest video game launches is upon us. The PlayStation Vita is coming out swinging by providing the most powerful handheld gaming experiences to date. It also doesn’t hurt that the launch lineup is fairly solid as well.  Though the Vita has been struggling to sell in Japan, maybe North American audiences will be more willing to pony up $250-300 for  one. I’m very curious to see how the system is received on this side of the world. Are you picking one up today? Or do you already have one in your hands and want to tell the world about it? Let’s talk in the comments!
