Ms. Marvel #1 Review

By the time I started reading comics, Carol Danvers had already left her Ms. Marvel persona behind to become Captain Marvel. I have no preconceived notions for what that character should be beyond her signature lightning bolt bathing suit, but the new Ms. Marvel definitely caught my eye. Not only for the fact that Muslim characters are rarely featured in western comics, but because it’s something I can empathize with. I’m not of Muslim descent myself, but many of my friends are, as I grew up a community with a large Muslim population. With issue #1 having recently hit store shelves, Steff picked up Kamala Kamal’s debut outing and I gave it a read.

Forbidden Island Review

In Forbidden Island, you and your team of adventures set forth on this island in search of mystical treasure. The problem is, the island decides to sink whenever punks like you try and make off with the goods. The game starts with you and your group scattered across this place that is already flooded in spots. Your goal is to collect all four treasures and return to the helicopter pad before one many calamities permanently halts your progress.

Just in case you were wondering, yes, this is the precursor of Forbidden Desert, which I’ve previously reviewed. That game was one that made a lukewarm first impression but when it clicked, it really wowed us with how exciting of an adventure it turned out to be. Due to my enjoyment of that game, I decided to take a stab at the game that spawned the franchise.

Suicide Squad Vol. 2: Basilisk Rising Review

Volume 1 of the Suicide Squad caught me off guard. This ragtag group of B-level villains forced to work together made a great first impression on me with an entertaining story line and stand-out appearances from Harley Quinn and Deadshot. This time, the team is after a supervillain whose powers change each time he dies and comes back to life.

Strider Impressions

Strider to me is the cool ninja guy in the Marvel vs. Capcom games. Sure, I know he has his roots in manga as well as in his own 2D side-scrolling action games, but I’ve never actually played them before. I didn’t come across a Strider game in my lifetime until I picked up an NES copy of the original game a few months ago. With the reboot of Strider on modern consoles, this is really my first crack at Capcom’s brand of 2D side-scrolling ninja action.

Ticket to Ride on iPhone Review

I’ve been buying board games on iOS since the launch of the app store. However, my collection of board games consists of mainstream titles like Monopoly, Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. Now that I’ve expanded my horizons when it comes to physical board games, it’s about time that I revamp my iOS collection as well. First on my new list is Ticket to Ride; a personal favourite of mine.

Is Monopoly A Bad Game?

With millions of copies sold and a countless number of variants and evolutions since the 1930s, Monopoly is a board game institution. Even in 2014, you can go to any board game section and find at least three different versions of the game available for sale. Heck, I don’t even remember the last time I played a physical version of Monopoly with people, yet I happen to have the Nintendo and Family Guy editions of it on my shelf.

No one will argue the game’s ubiquity, but can it stand on its gameplay alone? The further I delve into the hobbyist gaming community, the more I see people label it as a bad game. Do I agree with this notion?

Kill Doctor Lucky Review

Kill Doctor LuckyI don’t know what Doctor Lucky did to piss everyone off, but it must have been serious if everyone is trying to kill him. In Kill Doctor Lucky, everyone is stalking the man through his house in hopes of taking his life before anyone else does. However, the murder must be done without anyone looking, and the good doctor’s four leaf clover seems to be putting in overtime based on how easily he’ll slip past your attacks. In a way, it’s sort of like the prequel to Clue.

Decapre Revealed as the Final Ultra Street Fighter IV Character

After months of teasing and speculation, Capcom has finally revealed the final character that will make her debut in Ultra Street Fighter IV later this year. Decapre, who is one of M. Bison’s Dolls, is a clone of Cammy. Well, they’re technically all clones of the same thing, but yes, this is all part of the existing Street Fighter mythology and not just a cheap way to get another character in the game (though that’s probably also the case).
