The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time 3D Impressions

To this day, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time is considered by many as one of the greatest video games of all-time. I definitely side with that mentality. I even gushed about it before on this very blog. With that said, the Nintendo 64 original and Gamecube port don’t look so hot by today’s standards. The textures are a blurry mess, everything is overly blocky and they both only run in 480i resolution. It would have been a shame if this classic got lost in time. Thankfully, Nintendo is breathing new life into it with a 3DS iteration that’s a bit more than a port.

Mass Effect 3 Single Player Review

The Earth is screwed. At least it appears that way when you first boot up Mass Effect 3. After your Shepard thwarted the Reapers plans in Mass Effect 1 and 2, they’re bringing the pain to your home world. While the temptation is strong to stay and protect your home world, Shepard knows the only way to victory involves him recruiting all the help he can get from across the galaxy.

Are you ready to suit up in hopes of ending the Reaper threat once and for all?

Coming Soon: Mass Effect 3

To label myself as “excited” for Mass Effect 3 would be an understatement. Anything less than “giddy like a little school girl” would be selling my excitement short. Mass Effect 3 is my most anticipated game of 2012 and it’s coming out in just a few days.

Early Thoughts on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Despite the series success over the years, critics of the Zelda series have knocked it for being too formulaic. I don’t play enough Zelda games to feel that way, but I understand the point. With that said, I loved Twilight Princess and still believe that Ocarina of Time is one of the greatest video games of all-time.

Going into Skyward Sword, I was super-excited to jump back into the land of Hyrule to save the princess and save the world. As of writing, I’m at the front steps of the second dungeon, and my excitement has cooled off considerably.

Hey Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors, Play Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Just a friendly reminder from In Third Person to Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors to remember that Nintendo gave you a free copy of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. If you haven’t played it yet, please do. The Fire Emblem franchise is one of the best turn-based strategy RPG series out there and The Sacred Stones is proof of the series’ awesomeness. I came into the Fire Emblem series as a gamer who wasn’t even a fan of the genre, and this is one of the games that turned me into a huge Fire Emblem fanboy.

So what are you waiting for? You already have it sitting on your 3DS. Do yourself a favour and play Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones if you haven’t booted it up yet. You’ll thank me later.

Game Design Talk – Is Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Too Big?

There is nothing about the Skyrim experience that you can describe as “small”. Everything from the size of the world, to the number of quests, to the number of ways to play that game are too large to quantify. Because of how much stuff there is to do in the game, I’m fairly certain that the majority of Skyrim players will never finish the main quest, let alone experience everything that game has to offer.

In spite of its girth, it amazes me how great Skyrim is on almost every front. With that said, could Skyrim have been an overall better game if it wasn’t so grand?

Early Impressions of Muramasa: The Demon Blade

During a time when the Wii was getting ragged on hard by the community for its inability to process graphics to the level of the XBOX 360 or PlayStation 3, Muramasa: The Demon Blade was one of those Wii-exclusive games the hardcore Wii gamers held up to the haters in response. While its in screen shots and in videos were enough to get me to pick it up on the cheap during a Blockbuster closing sale, I wasn’t ready for how gorgeous it actually looked and ran on my TV. Like Kirby’s Epic Yarn, it uses strong art direction and stylistic graphics to overcome the Wii’s technical limitations to great effect.

Although it may have the looks going for it, games can’t survive on pretty looks alone. Having played a few hours of Muramasa: The Demon Blade so far, I can tell you that there’s a lot more here than just a pretty face.

Pick Up Post: Fallout 3

For a game I’ve never played before, I know quite a bit about Fallout 3. I know that it’s a first-person RPG made by the same guys who did Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I also know a bunch of weird story details, which I’ve heard through a few of my close friends, who love this game to death. They’ve always tried to talk me into playing the game, but for one reason or another, I’ve passed on it.

Pick Up Post – Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

As with Dragon Age: Origins, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a game that is way outside of my comfort zone. Other than the fact that it is a first-person RPG, all I know is that it’s made by Bethesda, that it is/was really buggy, and that a lot of people love this 100+ hour game.

Out Now: Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3

For all of the gamers who only own a PlayStation 3, I have a job for you. Now that Mass Effect 2 is out, I need you to play it. Buy a copy in the store. Download it through the PlayStation Network. Rent it from Blockbuster. As long as you don’t bootleg it, I don’t really care how you go about playing this game. But please, do yourself a favour, and play this game.
