About Those Daily Posts…

When it comes to blogging, the key to success is consistency. The vast majority of blogs fail because their authors either post too inconsistently and/or abandon their blog completely. For the past few months, I’ve worked really hard to update this blog on a daily basis. Keeping up this pace has helped grow the reach of In Third Person from a few hundred visits a month to a few thousand.

For those of you that have come to expect a post from me every day, I may have some bad news for you.

Super Street Fighter IV: A Change of Heart

When it comes to the Street Fighter IV series, Akuma has been my main man. I’ve played over 300 hours of that game using him as my guy. I know the ins and outs to make him work, and all of the weaknesses others can exploit to beat him. I worked my way up to one of the top 300 Akuma players on XBOX Live in North America. He was even my go-to character when I won my first tournament match at Fan Expo.

Since that tournament though, I’ve been exploring my options. I’ve been dabbling with other characters. After a lot of practice and soul searching, I think it’s time I had a change of heart.

Valentine’s Day Special: Steff’s Top 5 Video Games for Couples to Play Together

For the last few days, I’ve been struggling to come up with a topic to write about for Valentine’s Day. I’m no stranger to writing about the relationship between love and video games, but I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go with a Valentine’s Day special. Short on ideas, I turned to my girlfriend Steff for inspiration.

Instead of just giving me an idea, she kind of made the whole thing. She came up a list of her top 5 video games for couples to play together, and we talked through each of her choices, which I’ve included in this post. Without further ado, here are Steff’s choices for the top 5 video games for couples to play together.

Girlfriend Gaming – We Play Saw: The Video Game

Steff is a huge fan of the Saw series. The first entries to the series are some of her favourite horror movies of all-time. Because of that connection, she’s wanted to play this game for quite some time. It’s not easy to find new nowadays, but I was able to pick it up for her duringone of my random trips to Blockbuster. After spending some time with her in Jigsaw’s asylum, did this survival horror game scare the heck out of us? Or will we turn Jigsaw down next time he asks us to play a game?

Jett vs. BLACKHAWKxDOWN in Super Street Fighter IV

Hardcore followers of the Street Fighter IV community have no doubt seen this video. This is the clip that put DarkSydePhil on the map as a voice in the community, and also the video that exposed XBOX Live user BLACKHAWKxDOWN for his flowchart style and his dubious manipulation of the rules to his advantage.

To my surprise, I found BLACKHAWKxDOWN on XBOX Live yesterday, who was hosting ranked matches on his end. I joined his lobby and his signature Ken faced off against my Rose. Was I able to do what DarkSydePhil didn’t do on that fateful day?

Girlfriend Gaming – We Play Def Jam: Icon

The last time Steff and I played a rap-music-related game, we were caught by surprise. I figured that 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand at best would be ironic fun, but it turned out to be a fairly solid game. Steff, who isn’t into shooters at all, really got into it. It was good enough that I went out and picked up my own copy so that we could play co-op.

When she saw Def Jam: Icon at the store, she was hoping that it would be the fighting game equivalent to Blood on the Sand. Instead, the game broke her heart after the very first fight. In her words, the game was, “Utter disappointment.”

Jett Vs. Episode 3: Epic Comeback

Welcome to episode 3 of Jett Vs., a series of blog posts where I post one of my Super Street Fighter IV match videos and analyze it for your viewing and reading pleasure. This series has been on hiatus for a while because, well, no one cared for this feature and I have the analytics to back that sentiment up.

However, I couldn’t help but share this one particular match with you. If you care to check it out, click through and see the rest of this post.

My Gaming New Year Resolution For 2011

Do you do the New Year Resolution thing? Is this the day when you tell yourself that you’re going to stop smoking, exercise or address some form of personal fault? The reason that I ask is that I generally shy away from making any New Year Resolutions. I’m of the mindset that if you really wanted to change something about yourself, you wouldn’t need something as arbitrary as a new calendar to make it happen. If you’ve made New Year Resolutions work in the past, then ignore my hate and continue doing what you do.

Out of curiosity, would you happen to have a New Year Resolution for 2011? Maybe one related to gaming? I do.

Boxing Day is Here!

Canadian shoppers rejoice! Boxing Day is here, which is the Canadian equivalent of Black Friday (even though we have Black Friday up here now too). If you’re not reading this from a Best Buy or Futureshop lineup at the time of this posting, you may already be too late to score a door-crasher deal at either of those stores. However, most retailers won’t have swarms of customers lining up around them and most won’t be busy until noon today, when people have recovered from a day of Christmas partying. On top of that, it’s still prime time to shop online.

Merry Christmas from In Third Person

Christmas is here! Considering the fact that most people (including myself) are busy celebrating the birth of Jesus (or at least enjoying the day off), I will not be have anything major to contribute today as far as video games go.

I just wanted to chime in and say Merry Christmas, happy holidays and all that other good stuff. Now go spend your time away from In Third Person by doing more important stuff, like spending time with your family or playing all the sweet new video games you received from Santa this year.
