Fire Emblem Love Post of Turn-Based Strategic Bliss

To even the most diehard Nintendo fans, the name Fire Emblem means nothing to them outside of Marth, Roy and Ike, who all appeared in various versions of Super Smash Bros. They may not be household names like Mario or Link, but little do they know that those three guys come from one of Nintendo’s oldest and longest-running franchises, which dates back to 1990. Most people also don’t know that the Fire Emblem series of games are awesome. I don’t think I could do my love for this franchise justice in a blog post, but I’m going to try anyway.

Tying Up Some Loose Ends

Before leaving the country for my trip, there were a number of gaming-related things I wanted to write about. Due to other life factors, that didn’t happen. While I’m late to the party on, In Third Person isn’t always known for its timeliness.

With that said, click through to read up on my experiences with the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program, Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition and Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection!

Looking Back at Cooking Mama

The original Cooking Mama is an important game. Yes, I’m going there and no, I’m not joking. Though I normally don’t cover casual games, I wanted to take the time out to look back at a game that saved a company from going out of business, a game that spawned a multi-million selling franchise (not including spin-offs) and was a trailblazer in the casual games movement. It also taught me just enough about real-life cooking that when my girlfriend and I cook together (which doesn’t happen often), I can relate my understanding of some of the tasks she assigns me to do back to my time with Cooking Mama. She shakes her head every single time, but I digress, as that isn’t the story I want to tell today.

I’m Home

It’s been a slice, England.

Though I’ve been back in Canada now for a few hours, and some of the specifics of our trip are starting fade from my mind, I’ll never forget how amazing every minute of that trip felt for Steff and I.

It’s going to take a bit more time for me to settle in, but I do have some post-trip posts lined up. Stay tuned!

Early Impressions of Muramasa: The Demon Blade

During a time when the Wii was getting ragged on hard by the community for its inability to process graphics to the level of the XBOX 360 or PlayStation 3, Muramasa: The Demon Blade was one of those Wii-exclusive games the hardcore Wii gamers held up to the haters in response. While its in screen shots and in videos were enough to get me to pick it up on the cheap during a Blockbuster closing sale, I wasn’t ready for how gorgeous it actually looked and ran on my TV. Like Kirby’s Epic Yarn, it uses strong art direction and stylistic graphics to overcome the Wii’s technical limitations to great effect.

Although it may have the looks going for it, games can’t survive on pretty looks alone. Having played a few hours of Muramasa: The Demon Blade so far, I can tell you that there’s a lot more here than just a pretty face.

In Third Person’s List of 5 Posts You May Have Missed: I’m In London Edition

By the time this post goes live, my girlfriend and I will have stepped foot in London, England. With little to no access to the internet for the next week or so, you won’t be seeing me writing any up-to-the-minute news or anything of that nature.

However, there will still be stuff to read on In Third Person. Before getting into some new posts, I thought now would be a great time go back through the archives and spotlight some great posts from the past that you may have missed. If you’re thinking that I’m taking the easy way out on this one because I’m out of the country, you would also be correct, but I swear these posts are worth going back for!

I Just Got Home From Fan Expo 2011

Hey Friends,

Sorry for the lack of posts these last few days. I’ve spent most of the last four days enjoying the spoils of Fan Expo 2011 in Toronto. I haven’t even been at my house to sleep most nights, as it’s been more convenient for us to have me crash at Steff’s place.

If you were there, I hope you enjoyed it as thoroughly as Steff, Michelle and I did. It was once again a great event, and moving the location to a larger venue helped make things run so much smoother. I will try my best to document as much of my experiences as I can in the next few days, though my fleeting memory will also be challenged by a looming vacation to London.

I may not be as thorough with my posts as last year, but I’ll be sure to scribe something before I hop on that plane! Take care everyone!

Off-Topic: I’m Going to London

Though I have traveled to hundreds of fictional video game worlds in my lifetime, traveling in real life has been far less frequent. I’ve only ever been on a plane once in my life, and I’ve only spent a total of one month out of my entire existence outside of my country. My lack of traveling has nothing to do with me being a video game nerd. However, it has everything to do with not having the time or resources to travel up until this point in time.

With that said, life is starting to stabilize for me. I’ve been working full-time for the last few years, which comes with the benefits of a steady income and paid vacation. In a matter of days, I’ll be enjoying the spoils of my ‘wealth’ with my girlfriend in London, England in just over a week from today.

Out Now – Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online

During my 14-year hiatus from fighting games, I missed out on some of the genre’s biggest franchises. Since I’ve come back to the scene, I’ve caught up on Street Fighter Alpha I and II, as well as Marvel vs. Capcom 2. However, the biggest fighting game I’ve yet to play is Third Strike.

That is, until now. Street Fighter III: Third Strike is available now on PSN, and will be available on XBOX Live tomorrow. I’ll for sure pick it and see what I’ve missed all these years.

Metro 2033 Impressions

Up until now, I’ve been fairly impressed with the games I’ve picked up at many Blockbuster closing-down sales. Split/Second, Vanquish and Enslaved have all been quality products that I enjoyed greatly. I was hoping that I’d find another surprisingly fun experience Metro 2033. Would this game win me over like the other ones did?
