Anthem Demo Starts Today and Runs Throughout This Weekend

Starting at noon EST today and ending at 9pm EST on Monday, February 4th, the Anthem demo will be playable for all. As a huge BioWare fan whose had this game on pre-order for years, I’m really excited to give their next adventure a shot! Will have more to say on the demo soon, but for now, I’ll be anxiously awaiting for it to launch!

Charting My Video Game Skills on an RPG Stat Sheet

For years, I have kicked around this silly hypothetical question in my head. “In a world where characters are scored based on their abilities within each video-game-related skill, how would I score in each?” In this post, I pick a handful of genres that represent my strengths and flaws as a gamer and give them a score based on a 0-10 scale. Let’s try this out!

Out Now: Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee

It’s time to catch ’em all on the Switch!

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee are out now! Taking us back to the Kanto region, you’ll be playing in a quasi-modern reboot of Pokemon Yellow. I know there’s a lot of scuttlebutt within the more hardcore Pokemon community about this not being the next “real” game in the series, but it’s not a real concern for me. Having casually played through Pokemon X and Pokemon Ultra Moon, I’m not married to that format. If anything, a shift towards mimicking Pokemon Go might be what I need to get really invested, as it’s the Pokemon game I’m most invested in.

Since I pre-ordered it from Amazon, I’m not exactly sure if it’s coming in today or Monday. In any case, I’ll be playing it soon!

Are you returning to Kanto today or in the near future? Or are you waiting for the true Gen 8 Pokemon game?

Mass Effect: Andromeda Review

(NOTE: I didn’t finish the game. I stopped after Kadara. You’ll see why in a minute)

In Mass Effect: Andromeda, you’re certainly not in Kansas anymore. As part of a group of pioneers that left the Milky Way in search of new worlds, you end up in the Andromeda galaxy, where creating a settlement has turned out to be more difficult than originally planned. Do you have what it takes to help the species from the Milky Way establish themselves in this new world?

Early Impressions of Mass Effect: Andromeda

When Mass Effect: Andromeda was released, it came into the world with a flurry of criticism. From knocks on it being a less compelling game to its predecessors to glaring technical issues that shatter the uncanny valley, I heavily thought about trading in my launch copy to avoid disappointment. Eventually, I decided to give it a shot and…I’ve enjoyed what I played quite a bit.

Steff Plays South Park: The Stick of Truth

A few days back, I got cozy on the couch and watched Steff play South Park: The Stick of Truth. It’s one that she’s had some interest in for quite some time and one that she pulled recently purchased. Due to the franchise’s poor history with video games, I had concerns that this one would be another bust. Thankfully, from the few hours I saw of the game, it looks like the South Park game that we’ve all been waiting for.

Dungeon Roll Review

For a genre of tabletop gaming that’s synonymous with thick rulebooks, lots of number-crunching and campaigns that can last forever, Dungeon Roll aims to distill that classic role-playing experience into a shorter and more streamlined dice game. In this adventure, 1-4 players take turns delving into this treacherous dungeon to kill monsters and collect loot. After each player has taken three trips into the dungeon, the person with the most experience points wins. Is it worth suiting up for this dice-based dungeon crawl?
