Does Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Still Hold Up?

Scott, Ramona, and all of her crazy exes are back! Many years after Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game was delisted from Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Store, the game finally returns to modern platforms. Having fond memories of my time with it, I gladly picked up the rerelease.

Does the game still hold up to modern scrutiny though?

From Celeste to Overwatch 2, Let’s Talk About Canada in Video Games

Late last year as part of the Overwatch 2 reveal, Blizzard showcased a new level based on the city of Toronto. Truthfully, this tidbit of info was more exciting to me than anything else shown that day. As a T-Dot native, seeing the city brought to life in one of the world’s most popular games was a nod that felt incredibly overdue.

Maybe my bias is showing, but Canada has always felt underrepresented in the world of gaming. Even so, Canadian locales and characters have found ways of making an impact on the greater landscape. Ron’t be a hoser and come with me on a tour through Canada in video games!

Review for Scott Pilgim vs. The World: The Game

Timed coincidently with the DVD release of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, the price of the downloadable game was slashed by 50% on XBOX Live. By the time you’re reading this, you’re too late to take advantage of the deal, but I was quick enough to snag it.

Whether you pick it up for 400 or 800 Microsoft points, you’re getting a pretty good beat ’em up.  That is, if you’re still looking to play this style of game (and are willing to put up with some annoying quirks).

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game is the XBOX LIve Deal of the Week

Last time I wrote about this game, I was debating to myself whether or not I wanted to drop $10 on it. Based on what I had played from the demo, I enjoyed what was there, but I wasn’t sure if there was enough to justify my $10. Yes, I understand that in the grand scheme of gaming (console gaming in particular), $10 isn’t that much. However, I want a certain level of value out of my games and $10 for that particular package didn’t add up to me.

None of that matters now, at least for this week.

To Buy Or Not To Buy – Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game

2D beat-em-up games used to be a healthy part of my gaming diet. I played a ton of the Ninja Turtles arcade games, Double Dragon and the X-Men arcade game back when the genre was in its prime. Watching the trailer for the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World game for the first time sent my mind back to a warm and mushy place where walking to the right and hitting the only attack button available was the coolest thing ever.

When I first played the demo, I only had 5 minutes with it before I got pulled away from my XBOX 360. Based on that first impression, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Recently though, I played through the whole demo, and I’m starting to get cold feet.

Game Nerd vs. Movie Watcher: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

A few nights ago, my girlfriend and I watched Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Walking out of that theatre and thinking about how much I enjoyed that movie put me in a weird mental space. On one side, the gamer in me was really happy to see video games represented with a level of love and respect that movies have failed to deliver on. On the other side, the movie watcher in me wasn’t so sure I enjoyed it for the all the right reasons.
