Who else was surprised that Sony named their new console the PlayStation 5?
Kidding! Though we didn’t need Nostradamus to predict that, Sony did reveal a lot of new info regarding their latest console during their recent event. This assortment of notes is by no means comprehensive or in chronological order, but I thought were worth sharing anyway.
A shocking series of events in Stardew Valley leaves me absolutely speechless! What the heck just happened?! We also discuss Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics, how we approach decision-making in role-playing games, and our feelings about the world starting to open up again even without a vaccine.

“The millionaire, the mansion, the yacht!”
Quoting the late Notorious B.I.G. as I shook my dice, I was two fives short of scoring a five-of-a-kind. Doing so would net me a whopping 50 points; easily the single largest point opportunity in the game. Though I’ve yelled the Biggie quote dozens of times with no luck, it finally paid off on this final throw. Five-in-a-row. 50 points. Jett wins.
Despite the immediate salt, my wife Steff calls for another rematch. We were already hours deep into this extended Yacht Dice session and would end up playing many more. I may have never discovered how fun Yacht Dice (better known as Yahtzee outside of the game) is had it not been for a series of events that led to me picking up Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics.

Once upon a time, Tetris on the NES was sold as a full-priced game. Even back then, its feature set was lacking, as it didn’t have local multiplayer. All you could do was chase for a high score. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop the world from buying it in the millions.
Imagine asking players to spend full price on a Tetris game now? No way! Even with the VR support and numerous gameplay modes that it offers, Tetris Effect didn’t launch as a full-priced game. That still didn’t stop many from being critical of its value proposition, specifically its distinct lack of multiplayer. Tetris 99 isn’t full-priced if you buy the standalone edition, nor is Puyo Puyo Tetris, which is essentially two full puzzle games in one. Even I complained about Treasure Stack, a game that I bought on sale for $5 CAD, because its value proposition felt thin.
Taking a step back, it’s been interesting to see how one of my favourite genres has been devalued over time.
When it comes to video game golf, I tend to prefer games that are a bit more fantastical rather than realistic. However, I do have my limits. Mario Golf on the Nintendo 64 finds my perfect blend of realism vs. fantasy, but its sequel on the GameCube was completely off-putting for its overly fantastical courses and power shots.
What the Golf? pushes the fantastical elements so far into the realm of silly that it’s only a golf game in the broadest of senses. Though the game bills itself as being a golf game for those that like golf, does it have any appeal for those that do?
Thanks to the help of everyone in the chat, we’ve started creating a whole album of songs inspired by Haley in Stardew Valley!
