Now is the Most Inopportune Time for My Switch to Be Dying

For a few months now, I’ve started to notice my Switch getting louder than usual. It started out as an infrequent occurrence. As the situation developed, the sound of the fan whirring at warp speed became the norm. These days, it will inevitably overheat and auto shut off when played in docked mode. Haven’t managed to overheat the console in portable mode just yet, but the console does get very hot to the touch with extended play. My gut says that the Switch will survive a bit longer in open air vs. within the confines of the dock.

Based on my research and the grumbling sound emanating from my Switch these days, it seems like the internal fan has kicked the bucket. The system isn’t completely unplayable right now, but it feels like an inevitability at this point. Not the news I want in the midst of a global pandemic.

ARMS Gets a Second Wind Thanks to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Having sold north of 2 million units and still standing as one of the best-selling titles on the Nintendo Switch, ARMS doesn’t necessarily need a new lease on life. Nevertheless, it’s getting one. With a yet-to-be named ARMS character being included as part of the season 2 Fighter Pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, an open online tournament, and free trial available now on the eShop, ARMS is relevant again and I’m so happy for it.

Welcome to My House! – Animal Crossing: New Horizons Live Stream

Welcome to Steff and I’s island of Pawnee! We just got a shop and I’ve got a boatload of tasks to cross off my to-do list. I have also put in a lot of work making sure the art on my in-game walls is reflective of what you see in the basement. Towards the end of the stream, we take a visit to Randy’s island that is rich in fruits!

Twitch and Live Streaming Beyond the Bounds of Video Games

“Person Playing Video Games” is probably the single largest form of content that exists in the world of live streaming. There’s nothing wrong with that. Will be the first to admit that the vast majority of my streaming content is in that format. I also have no shortage of amazing memories that have come from game streaming. Odds are, this type of content will be my bread-and-butter for the foreseeable future.

Even so, I have ambitions of doing more within the medium. Boss Rush – a talk show I host with Jason, Mat, Jon, Kris, and Rachel – is just the start.

Homebodies

“Can we take a walk to the park?”

Having spent all of yesterday and most of today indoors, Steff asked me if we could go outside to shake off her cabin fever. Our area is not at a point where we’re quarantined to the house under martial law, so there were no legal ramifications for doing so. Though I’m probably more concerned than most, I agreed. We got dressed, walked to the park, played a bit of Pokemon Go, and went home.

Practicing social distancing is one of the best measures we have right now when it comes to minimizing the spread of COVID-19. However, the process is having adverse effects on the mental health of many.

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] Review

First released in 2012, Under Night In-Birth is arguably at its peak right now. Numerous updates and a groundswell of fan support have helped it earn a place on the EVO main stage, pushing the game even further into the spotlight. Though I’ve known of the series for quite some time, I finally decided to take the plunge with its latest release, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r]. What is it about this fighter that continues to draw players in many years later?

How Animal Crossing: New Horizons Focuses Players Within its Open-Ended Structure

One of the coolest things about the Animal Crossing franchise is that its open-ended structure allows players to have a rewarding experience however they approach it. Want to collect one of everything? Go nuts! Prefer to focus on designing clothes? Have fun! Want to dabble in everything the game has to offer? Me too!

However, this openness can feel like aimlessness. With so much to do, where does one even begin? Or, as someone who has played almost every entry in the series, “What is my incentive to fish, talk to strangers, and collect fruits again?”

Admittedly, I did not expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons to have a compelling answer to this question. The franchise has struggled with this question with every release past the original on GameCube. Lo and behold, I think New Horizons figured it out.
