Jackbox Party Pack 5 Review

Jackbox Games caught lightning in a bottle with the Party Pack concept. Bundling a set of party games that are played with smartphones has livened up countless get-togethers the world over, including a few parties I’ve attended or hosted. The latest edition of the series marks the return of its flagship game You Don’t Know Jack, as well as four new titles to enjoy. Is this a worthy addition to the series or your next party?

Celeste – Chapter 3: Celestial Resort

We come across Mr. Oshiro and his hotel in third chapter of Celeste! I love how the mess in the hotel and the bags strewn about represent the emotional baggage that keeps Mr. Oshiro tied down to this hotel. One of the best levels in the game with phenomenal music that builds up with crazy drum solos!

I apologize for the encoder crapping out towards the end of this clip, which threw my voice out of sync. Still trying to sort through that issue, but I think I’m getting closer to squashing it once and for all!

Celeste – Chapter 2: Old Site

We meet the “pragmatic” side of Madeline in this dreamy second chapter of Celeste! This level has some of my favourite music in all of video games, as well as the awesome chase sequence!

Rocket League Goes Cross-Platform!

Fortnite opened the doors for cross-platform play in 2018. Now it’s Rocket League‘s turn. Psyonix announced today that their amazing car soccer game is playable across any combination of Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch players! Up until now, PlayStation 4 was segregated from the others.

Really hoping that all multiplayer games going forward are cross-compatible. At this point, its been proven to work on a technical level. It’s only been businesses protecting their best interests that have kept the gates up for so long. This is a great step forward and I hope we get more news like this in 2019! In particular, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Overwatch to make the leap!

Most Disappointing Games of 2018

While I am no stranger to reviewing bad games for my own site or others, I generally pass on the opportunity to do so. As such, I don’t play a lot of bad games per se. However, even though I go to great lengths to avoid duds, some games just fall short of my expectations. While these games aren’t considered bad in the grander sense, these games did let me down more than any others in 2018.

70+ characters, including every single playable character from past iterations. 100+ stages. 800+ songs. Virtually no game has gone to the lengths that Super Smash Bros. has in order to earn the Ultimate moniker. The numbers are certainly there, but does the package come together to create the definitive Super Smash Bros. experience?
