Judged solely on its gameplay alone, XCOM 2 is a wonderful addition to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One lineups. Building off the success of the original, this game improves on its predecessor in almost every conceivable way. Unfortunately, some glaring technical issues make this game really hard to recommend if you have the ability to play it on PC.

Out Now: XCOM 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
Despite my adoration for its predecessor, XCOM 2 has slipped my mind a few times now. When it was first announced as a PC-exclusive, I whined about that fact on this blog and then forgot about it. While out on honeymoon in Hawaii, I was surprised to see console versions of the games available for pre-order. After that, the game fell out of my consciousness until it showed up in the mail just now.
Climbing the Fighting Game Leaderboards
Fighting game online leaderboards are not the be-all-end-all measure of a player’s success. For one, there are cheaters out there who will scam their way to the top just to see their names in lights. Also, sitting at the top of any leaderboard doesn’t entitle you to anything when it’s really time to prove your worth at a tournament.
That being said, leaderboard performance matters to me. I use it as a means of not only measuring where I stand against the rest of the world, but measuring my own growth as a player. Furthermore, it acts as motivation to get better, as you can see what lies ahead.
Street Fighter V: Devour Hour

When it comes to Street Fighter games, I’m no stranger to exploring the character select screen. While Rashid continues to be my main character in Street Fighter V, I’ve been spending a lot of time lately with Necalli. This ancient warrior who has the power to turn Super Saiyan immediately caught my attention with his animalistic fighting style. He’s not just cool looks though, as I’ve discovered that he’s a capable combatant that can shred his opposition to bits.
Today, I’ll Be Competing at Red Bull Fight For the 6ix: 2nd Impact!
Coming off of a strong showing at the Cineplex World Gaming Street Fighter V Canadian Championships, I’m ready to fight again at Red Bull Fight for the 6ix: 2nd Impact! This is actually part two of a four-part tournament series taking place in Toronto, where the overall points leader will earn a shot at a spot at the Capcom Cup finals!
Earning a spot in the world finals would be incredible, though that’s probably not realistic for me just yet. At this point, I think it’s more about measuring my growth as a player since the last tournament I competed at. Though that span of time has only been about a month, I feel like I’ve made some meaningful improvements to my game.
Win or lose, I’m excited to be back in the mix! Wish me luck!
Early Impressions of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Nathan Drake makes his PlayStation 4 debut in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. While you’ve probably already beaten the game three times over at this point, I just started. Sorry, was busy. I’m around chapter 8 or so.
While the game starts a bit slow, things have really picked up. I really like how the game has scaled up many of its core ideas in ways that require the power of the new hardware, such as the auction scene filled with people in the main room and objects that realistically fall apart as they get shot. The only thing that has been a bummer so far are that some of the climbing sequences go on for too long. They feel more like filler at times.
Street Fighter has been a huge monkey wrench in my gaming schedule, but I like what I’ve played so far. Will try and chime in with a full review if I ever get around to finishing it!

Today’s the big day! Months of practice and two tournaments later, I’ll now be competing against some of the best Street Fighter V players in the country. With bragging rights and a $10,000 grand prize on the line, I’m going to do everything I can to claim that title!

My First Day of Being a Street Fighter V Sensei

A few days ago, I went to my friend’s house to teach him how to play Street Fighter V. I had no expectations of him turning into Daigo overnight, but I really wanted to use this opportunity to open his mind to how the game is played at a high level and how he too could someday reach that plateau. While it didn’t exactly go according to plan, I think the mission was accomplished.
