What I’m Excited to Experience at Fan Expo 2019

For the 9th consecutive year, my wife and I will be making the trek downtown for Fan Expo 2018! Canada’s biggest celebration of all things nerdy and pop culture returns to Toronto, and I’m excited to come back for another round. Here’s a few things I’m excited to experience this time around!

Fan Expo Canada 2017 Recap

IMG_1393

As much as Fan Expo tries its best to provide attendees with wall-to-wall excitement, the likelihood of meeting everyone’s expectations in terms of personal taste is a tough order. This year was a year where that came to light for me. With a list of guests that didn’t appeal all that much, combined with a short shopping list, and I had my concerns that this would be a weak show. While it ended up being not as entertaining for me in years past, I did find enough to keep me entertained for the most part.

I’m Going to Fan Expo Canada 2017!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

From August 31st to September 3rd, Fan Expo returns to Toronto and I’ll be attending for my 8th consecutive year. Will be the first to admit that I’ve been lukewarm on this year’s event due to what’s currently been scheduled, but I know that once I’m there, my hype levels will pick up and I’ll have a great time.

Here’s a few standout things to me that I’m looking forward to checking out!

Breaking Down In Third Person’s 2015 Website Stats

Part of my job in real life is to analyze website data. Pouring through the numbers, I gather insights and make recommendations on how our clients should proceed. When it comes to this site, I peek at the numbers daily, though the amount of analysis that can be done though the wordpress.com suite of analytics has been pretty limited.

Recently, they rolled out the ability to export post data into CSV files. I did that, added an assortment of metatags, and start splicing up the numbers into interesting chucks. Let’s take a peek together at what’s happening under the hood of In Third Person!

Stuff vs. Space

Growing up, the concept of space didn’t really factor into my way of living. With my parent’s house as a repository, I bought what I wanted and held onto things for way longer than I probably should have. For instance, I stored a collection of a few dozen basketball shoes in my closet, hundreds of video games in the basement, and virtually all of my school work dating back to grade 6 under my bed. You know, in case I needed to refer to my school work someday in the real world.

Today, I’m challenged with a very different dilemma. While I don’t collect sneakers or homework anymore, they’ve been replaced with a large stash of comic books, board games and Amiibo figures. The video games are still here, albeit split in half as part of the “Great Divorce” my brother and I had when I moved out. Finally, my parent’s house has been replaced with Steff and I’s small condo. The stuff I have versus the space I have are at odds with each other and something has to give.

My 2016 Outlook for Video Games, Board Games and Comic Books

Happy New Year!

2015 was cool, but that’s in the past now and we have a new year to look forward to. This is going to be a monumental year for me, as Steff and I are set to get married(!). However, for the purposes of this post, let’s keep the focus on video games, board games and comic books. What are my thoughts on the year ahead?

Underneath My Christmas Tree: 2015 Edition

Christmas Gifts 2015Merry belated Christmas everyone! Hope the holiday season has been good to you. It was a hectic one for Steff and I, as we drove up and down Ontario in order to participate in the holiday festivities with all four sides of our families. During that time, gifts were exchanged, and I hope I brought smiles to those on my list in the same way that they made me smile with everything given to me. Thank you all!

Not that I don’t like them, but I’ll leave the non-nerdy stuff aside for this post. Let’s talk about all the nerdy stuff I got!

Wishing You a Merry Christmas!

While you’re busy opening gifts from Santa, I hope you find a place in your heart to give back beyond the gifts you’ve given your family and friends. One charity I donate to every year during the holiday season is Child’s Play. This year, I donated a copy of The Book of Life to my local children’s hospital, which I hope brings a few smiles to children who could really use the extra cheer. If it’s not Child’s Play, there are a number of other worthy causes worth your support. This is certainly a time of receiving, but don’t forget that the giving part is important too!

Fan Expo Canada 2015 Recap

Fan Expo 2015Steff and I were just two of the over 127,000 people converged at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this year for Fan Expo Canada 2015. This year was our fifth consecutive year going and it was a good show. Definitely not my favourite Fan Expo, but one that was certainly worthwhile that kept me entertained throughout. Lots of stories and pictures to share with you, so let’s just get into it!
