For many months now, viewers have been spamming the “Mind Blown” emote every time I go live. Still love seeing my head explode, but my signature emote now has company. If you’ve got a tier 1 sub to twitch.tv/inthirdperson, I hope you enjoy this trio of new emotes!

Guilty Gear -Strive- Closed Beta Impressions

The flagship franchise of Arc System Works’ ever-growing portfolio of anime fighting games returns in striking fashion. Guilty Gear -Strive- takes their 3D anime visuals to the next level while massively overhauling its gameplay with greater accessibility in mind. Set for release later this year, I got a chance to play in the closed beta. After a few hours of play against the computer and online opponents, there was much to unpack.

This Ends Tonight! – Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island Live Stream – FINALE

Hell bent on wrapping up the final two worlds of Yoshi’s Island in one sitting, this stream went into overtime as I struggled to push through the game’s surprisingly challenging final levels. As we march Baby Mario towards Baby Luigi, I vent about Bunny Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Also, what the heck is a cuddler!?

Dr. Tetris! – Tetris 99 Live Stream!

We can’t even escape the global pandemic in Tetris 99? Apparently not based on the usernames on the Nintendo Switch! Don’t worry though, I took out at least one strain in the game! Aspects of Streaming That Stress Me Out

As a viewer, streaming looks like it’s all fun and games. Going through the process has taught me that there is a lot to enjoy in front of the camera. Gaming is always a pleasure, but the most satisfying part of the experience comes from making new friends all over the world.

But to gloss over the myriad of stressors involved with the hobby would be a disservice. As a streamer, there are a plethora of potential stressors that can make this pursuit quite the challenge. Every person has their own unique set of triggers, but these are the things I fret over every time I go live.

Family Encounters During a Global Pandemic

“Just drop it off at the table.”

From an outsider’s perspective, it may have looked like I was engaging in illicit activity. Standing on my cousin Adrienne’s front porch, she cracked the window open just a little and gave me the instructions to drop off the Ziploc bag of Nintendo Switch games I brought for them to borrow. I put down the stash of games and picked up the container of soup she made for me as part of this trade. Backing away about 12 feet, she and her 3-year old son Kai opened the door and yelled, “Thank you!” I got back in the car and left.

I Got Accepted into the Guilty Gear -Strive- Closed Beta!

A while back, Arc System Works set up applications for the Guilty Gear -Strive- closed beta. Though access wasn’t guaranteed, as applicants would be placed in a lottery, I figured I would sign up anyway. Guess who got access?!

What Makes for a Good “Comfort Game”?

These last few weeks have been some of the hardest in modern history. Forced to retreat into our homes for the sake of social distancing, many are turning to games for some mental health relief. Ever since Animal Crossing: New Horizons released, my wife and I have poured hours into our shared island.

Part of that is because it’s the hot new game of the moment. But it’s also a fitting game for where we are from a mental standpoint. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the ultimate comfort game, considering the circumstances at hand.

This got me thinking about the greater concept of “comfort games”. Technically, any game can be comforting to someone. But what is it about a game that makes it more comfortable during times of high stress? I take a stab at defining the broadest parameters of what a “comfort game” is.
