Transferring Pokemon Between Pokemon Go and Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee

I am a mainline Pokemon scrub. Having only previously played Pokemon X and Pokemon Ultra Moon, I stumbled through both of those games with the handful of Pokemon I caught along the way. I was nowhere near close to finishing up my Pokedex in either.

In the world of Pokemon Go, it’s a different story. Having played religiously every day since launch, I’m a max level trainer with over 1,100 high-level-high-IV Pokemon in storage. With PvP just around the corner, I’m ready to scrap with anyone!

These two worlds collide in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee. Once you hit Fuchsia City, you unlock the ability to transfer your Pokemon Go buddies into Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee. I just got there and I’m standing outside the building where the transfer takes place. I can send over a complete Pokedex full of high-IV Pokemon right now. But do I want to?

Ashe Impressions in Overwatch

Leader of the Deadlock Gang, Ashe enters the world of Overwatch as the latest playable character. Packing an assortment of guns, explosives, and a large weaponized robot on speed dial, she’s looking to get her hands dirty on the battlefield. The initial trailer piqued my interest in her, but having played her for the past few weeks has been really eye-opening.

From taking players all the way back to Kanto region, to completely reworking the catching mechanics, Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee goes a long way towards streamlining the Pokemon experience. Generally speaking, I like the direction the game went with this particular title, though I dearly miss seeing which moves will be super effective/not effective on the menu. However, I’m overjoyed for one particular thing from Sun and Moon that was dramatically changed in Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee. Continue reading →

Marvel’s Spider-Man Review

Peter Parker is no stranger to video games. Having starred or appeared in dozens of titles throughout history, most of them have been terrible, as he’s largely been tied to sub-par games made as side products in support of something else. But if there were any character that was most deserving of the Arkham treatment, it’s the web crawler. We’ve seen glimpses of how good he can be through games that fell a bit short of greatness, but the potential has always been there due to the character’s inherent design and the lore around him. Finally, thanks to the good folks at Insomniac Games, Spider-Man was given the time and love needed to fulfill the promise of what a Spidey-centric game could be. The results are fantastic.

Fornite, PUBG, and the Appeal of Not Being Last

I will never forget the first time I played Fortnite. Before I’d even landed on the ground, I saw the player tracker already starting to count down from 100. “Wow!” I thought. “This is my first game ever and I’m not gonna finish dead last!” Aimlessly wandering the hills, I kept the player tracker in my peripheral view. Minutes were passing, and I found myself alone as players continued to drop in the dozens. By the time I finally found another player and was disposed of, I finished the game in fourth place, even though I hadn’t killed anyone. In fact, I only fired one bullet by accident in that whole match. Having played a number of matches since then, and in spite of me getting at least a bit more familiar with how it works, I haven’t reached that plateau again.

There are a lot of great things to like about Fortnite. Players really enjoy the balance between shooting and building that the game provides. It has a distinct look that appeals to a wide audience. Epic Games’ support of the title is unmatched, from the implementation of the Battle Pass, to an ever-evolving world that players are invested in. But when I think about that game, I think about the disproportionate amount of skill and effort I’ve put into the game relative to my final placings. It got me to wonder, “How much does not finishing in last place influence the player base’s enjoyment of the game?”
