Starlink: Battle for Atlas is Not What I Thought it Would Be

Having gotten the opportunity to play the demo for Starlink: Battle for Atlas at Fan Expo 2018, I thought I had a good idea of what I was getting myself into. I was expecting to play a game that featured a series of dogfights in orbit and land-based battles on the surfaces of different planets. Those elements are in there, and are still the best part of the game. What I wasn’t expecting was the fact that those are only smaller parts of a much grander framework.

Jackbox Party Pack 5 Review

Jackbox Games caught lightning in a bottle with the Party Pack concept. Bundling a set of party games that are played with smartphones has livened up countless get-togethers the world over, including a few parties I’ve attended or hosted. The latest edition of the series marks the return of its flagship game You Don’t Know Jack, as well as four new titles to enjoy. Is this a worthy addition to the series or your next party?

Celeste – Chapter 3: Celestial Resort

We come across Mr. Oshiro and his hotel in third chapter of Celeste! I love how the mess in the hotel and the bags strewn about represent the emotional baggage that keeps Mr. Oshiro tied down to this hotel. One of the best levels in the game with phenomenal music that builds up with crazy drum solos!

I apologize for the encoder crapping out towards the end of this clip, which threw my voice out of sync. Still trying to sort through that issue, but I think I’m getting closer to squashing it once and for all!

Celeste – Chapter 2: Old Site

We meet the “pragmatic” side of Madeline in this dreamy second chapter of Celeste! This level has some of my favourite music in all of video games, as well as the awesome chase sequence!

Notes from the Mortal Kombat 11 Gameplay Reveal Event

First revealed at the 2018 Game Awards, Mortal Kombat 11 had its big coming out party at a January 17th event. We got our first real glimpse at its gameplay, expanded variation system, story prologue, and more! Not going to provide a comprehensive rundown here, but I’ll highlight a few notes that I thought were worth noting!

Double Jump vs. In Third Person in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu! This Time, It’s Personal…

Click to watch the full video! twitch.tv/xdoublejump!

Last night, Kris from Double Jump continued her Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu adventure on Twitch. After she was done chipping away at the main campaign, she invited me on for a rematch!

We had some awesome battles, but I think the best part of hanging out with Kris was the conversation we had. During the battle and well after it was over, we just chatted for a long time and that was even more entertaining! The conversation went everywhere, from Bird Box, to Wonder Woman, Britney Spears, crazy hair styles, nightmare tales from our past retail jobs, my most epic fart, that time Kris almost lost an eye, and more! Kris and Rachel, we need to figure out how to make this off-topic chat a thing. Doesn’t matter if it’s your channel or mine, or if it only occurs once in a blue moon, we have to do it again because it was too much fun not to 😀

Here’s a few highlights to whet your appetite:

Kris wins!

If you haven’t already, give Double Jump a shot! They make awesome gaming content for their site that’s released daily and they stream multiple times a week. I sing their praises as friends and content creator colleagues all the time because they’ve earned all the adoration and hype I send their way.

Rocket League Goes Cross-Platform!

Fortnite opened the doors for cross-platform play in 2018. Now it’s Rocket League‘s turn. Psyonix announced today that their amazing car soccer game is playable across any combination of Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch players! Up until now, PlayStation 4 was segregated from the others.

Really hoping that all multiplayer games going forward are cross-compatible. At this point, its been proven to work on a technical level. It’s only been businesses protecting their best interests that have kept the gates up for so long. This is a great step forward and I hope we get more news like this in 2019! In particular, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Overwatch to make the leap!

These Aren’t My Game of the Year, But These 2018 Titles Are Worth Celebrating

Once again, congratulations to Celeste for taking home the prestigious In Third Person Game of the Year award! Though there can only be one winner, there were a number of fantastic games that were “thisclose” from taking the crown. Let’s take a moment to tip our hats to some of my favourite games of 2018!
