Over on Twitch, I recently wrapped up a playthrough of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. It’s a game that I’ve always held in high regard, but going through it now as an adult decades later further solidified its standing in my mind as an all-time great. What makes this one so special?
Mario’s dinosaur friend makes appearances in a plethora of fantastic games. As a solo star, Yoshi’s output is…a mixed bag. A slew of mediocre puzzle games, one-off ideas, and a disappointing collection of platformers makes up the majority of the library.
Though Yoshi could be used better, there are a some real gems in the catalogue. Here are my picks for best Yoshi games!
From weekend events that pay top players in eShop credit to event-exclusive themes, the best reason to subscribe to Nintendo’s weak online service continues to improve. Tetris 99 got a major bump last week thanks to its 2.0 update and the 2nd half of the Big Block DLC, which introduces exciting new modes, themes, and avatars. Let’s break down the new additions!

EB Games is in the midst of clearing out a bunch of its inventory through sidewalk sales. Admittedly, I wasn’t expecting much from them. However, the one by me happened to rent out an entire store space in the mall to fit all of the deals in. Here are a few things that caught my eye!

A little while back, I was watching Kris from Double Jump stream Deltarune. At a certain point, our conversation hit a big fork in the road. When it comes to what you enjoy more out of games, are you in it for gameplay or story? Though the true answer for everyone probably lies somewhere in the middle, I slant heavily towards gameplay, and she slants heavily towards story. Thinking back, it makes a lot of sense for why our taste in games is so different.
But then it got me thinking about the common ground we do have: Nintendo. How do we have this company’s work in common when we want very different things out of our games?
Two Super Mario games for the price of one! We start the stream by closing out New Super Mario Bros. U once and for all. Then we play a little bit of Super Mario 3D World! During the stream, we also discuss our picks for best and worst Super Mario power-ups!
Caught by surprise by how much I enjoyed New Super Mario Bros U. the other day, we continue our quest through the game! My favourite level, Painted Swampland, also makes an appearance!
Peachette will be in the Switch port of New Super Mario Bros. U coming in January 2019 and Bowsette may not see the light of day beyond the flood of art, memes, and cosplay. That’s not gonna stop me from giving New Super Mario Bros. U another go! Shoutouts to Twitter user @ayyk92 for the art and concept!
