Returning to Rose in Street Fighter V

Rose in the Street Fighter IV series will forever be my muse. When I made my ascendency from fighting game scrub to competent combatant, I did so by honing my skills with this formidable fortune teller. Beyond my personal growth as a fighting game player, I felt a connection so deep with Rose that I felt like it was actually me throwing the fireballs and swinging her magic scarf. Since then, I’ve found main characters in different fighting games that I enjoy playing as, but nothing compares to the bond I have with Street Fighter IV Rose.

That connection was severed as players migrated to Street Fighter V. With her not being a part of that game’s roster, I was forced to fight with someone else. Rashid has been a great ally to me, but it wasn’t the same. Even as the game’s mechanics and character balance were refined over time, a Rose-shaped hole in my heart still existed.

Until now. Welcome back, my friend.

The Curious Case of Downgraded Performance of Rogue Company on PC By Switching Monitors the Wrong Way

One of the weird quirks I’m still wrestling with when it comes to PC gaming is switching between monitors. Most games by default open on the main monitor, which isn’t actually what I want. The only game I’ve been able to get to open on the right screen by default is Overwatch. Everything else requires some noodling in the settings before I start.

Even so, switching monitors shouldn’t be that big of a deal, right? Unfortunately, the situation proved a bit hairier with Rogue Company.

My PC Gaming Experience Thus Far as a Life-Long Console Gamer

For most of my life, I have actively avoided PC gaming. I was scarred by bad experiences in the early 90s such as that time when my underpowered 386 couldn’t run Doom at all. Furthermore, I didn’t have the resources to spend thousands on a rig capable of playing modern games.

I’m only in a position now where I can play on PC by virtue of my streaming hobby. Sorely in need of a PC capable of handling my streaming and video editing needs, it just so happens that a video production PC can double as a solid gaming PC.

A few months into my PC journey, here’s how things are going thus far.

My Favourite Guns in Rogue Company

Each rogue in Rogue Company possesses a number of unique abilities and gadgets to set themselves apart from the competition. Some of these attributes can be real game-changers, such as Ronin’s explosive knife. But when I hit the character select screen, my choice of rogue is driven by which gun I’m taking to war.

Moving to PC as My Fighting Game Platform of Choice?

Playing fighting games on PC wasn’t really an avenue I put much thought into pursuing. Up until recently, I didn’t have PC hardware capable of running video games at all. Even if I did, the PC has played second fiddle to home consoles as the tournament standard ever since the fall of the arcades. Home consoles were easier to set up while providing players with a standardized battleground. Consoles don’t have issues with game performance varying from one PC to the next or having to worry about driver support for every possible controller option. As someone who took fighting games seriously and competed at IRL tournaments, I was going to take the tournament standard every time.

Things are…different now. I haven’t competed in an IRL tournament in a few years. Even if I wanted to, the entire fighting game tournament scene is in flux due to the ongoing pandemic. Also, I finally have a PC capable of running fighting games. If I were to ever give fighting games on PC a chance, it would be right now.
