Yoku’s Island Express Review

Yoku’s Island Express is one of the more novel game concepts you’ll come across. Playing the role of a dung beetle postal worker who is tethered to a ball, you’re tasked with delivering mail while also helping to prevent the apocalypse. Oh yeah, and while the game looks like a 2D platformer, you can’t actually jump. You traverse the entire world through walking and by launching yourself with pinball paddles littered throughout the island of Mokumana. Wait, what?

An Interview by TWOTALL4UFOOL of Yours Truly

A little while back, fellow gaming blogger TWOTALL4UFOOL reached out to me in order to conduct an interview. It’s an honour to be the focus of one!

Here’s a sneak peek of what you’ll find there, but I highly encourage you to read the whole interview on his site!

2T: How do you manage your time between making videos, blogging about video games, and well…. playing the games?

J: Very poorly.

With years of practice, I developed good habits that enabled me to have written content published at a set interval. On top of that, writing is an activity that can be done anywhere on basically any device.

Including video to the mix has completely disrupted my workflow. What I didn’t anticipate going into this was how much work goes into everything outside of playing games. From pre-show prep, to all of the work that has to happen afterwards to repurpose that stream as blog or social content is a massive time sink. At this point, the only time I really have to play games is when I’m streaming them. It’s not a great balance and it can’t stay like this forever.

I enjoy gaming on stream and engaging with everyone in the chat, so that will continue to be a part of my content mix going forward. What I need to do now is slow down, really think about all of these tasks that make In Third Person tick, and refine my workflow so that I can achieve a better balance in the long run

Interview #9: Jett from In Third Person

Thank you again TWOTALL4UFOOL for the interview! Make sure to check out his site and his Game ‘N Watch podcast!

I Got a Nintendo 64! Now What?

A few months back, I was dismayed to find out that my Nintendo 64 had disappeared in my parents’ house. It may still hiding somewhere, but I decided it was better off to move on. Having visited many stores and perused the classified listings, my search had been fruitless. Not that there weren’t Nintendo 64 consoles available, just not at a price I was willing to pay. At Hamilton Comic Con, luck was finally on my side. What do I do now with my newfound spoils?

Mega Man 11 Review

Long time, no see! Not having starred in a new game since the release of the fan-made Mega Man X Street Fighter in 2012, many feared that the Blue Bomber would never find his way back. Six years later, he makes his triumphant return in Mega Man 11. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but is this game a welcome return for Mega Man?

Acceptance and Empathy in Gaming Culture

Towards the end of the Pikmin 3 massacre (R.I.P.), a conversation between Rachel of Double Jump fame and I triggered a rant about acceptance and empathy in games. With a bit more of both, I think the greater discourse around games could be a much more positive experience for all. Don’t have a magic wand to make that change in the world overnight, but I’ll try my best to be respectful of other people’s opinions, having healthy discussions around differing views without resorting to personal attacks, and prevent myself from acting as a gatekeeper to others.

My Favorite Overwatch Characters Version 1.0

In a world that’s currently enamored with Fortnite and the battle royale flavour of shooter, I’m just catching up to 2016 with a fierce obsession to Overwatch. During its heyday, I was too busy trying to be a Street Fighter V champion. Only now am I really giving it the time of day and I’m smitten with it. Yes, I’ve played Fortnite, but I much prefer the hero shooter style of play. I prefer playing as a predefined character with a unique personality and wildly varied tools that you must master the pros and cons of in order to succeed. In that sense, it’s a much closer parallel to fighting games, my favourite genre.

Odds are my feelings will change with time, but I wanted to document how I feel right now about the cast. Here’s a list of my favourite characters in Overwatch!

The Horrific Pikmin 3 Massacre of 2018

Tune in to watch a rusty Pikmin 3 player inadvertently sabotage his crew to the point where they have no food left and almost all of their Pikmin are dead. I will be better next time.

Stick around for the great conversation between everyone that joined the stream though!

And yes, I totally talked about Taylor Swift again and nobody can stop me!
