The Bottoming Out of Pocket Rumble

Pocket Rumble was never going to usurp the likes of Street Fighter V or Tekken 7 at the top of the fighting game throne. However, I truly feel like the game had a chance to be bigger than it is today. The game had a lot of positive buzz when it was announced as a console exclusive for the Nintendo Switch a year ago. Nowadays, the game has been largely left behind by almost everyone that ever had any interest in it.

Roughly two months after launch, the game has fallen out of the Nintendo eShop top 30, the online leaderboards have tapped out around 10,000 players, and my recent online sessions felt like there were only a handful of people in the world still playing it. Despite how much I enjoy playing it, I’m reluctant to stream it anymore, as I tend to run into the same players repeatedly because they’re seemingly the only ones online with me.

What went wrong? And is there any way to get the game’s momentum back?

Observations Regarding the Streaming Experience

It’s been a bit over a year since I began this journey into the world of live streaming. It has been a very bumpy road filled with technical hiccups, dead air, and a strong sense of doubt for whether I should even pursue this avenue at all. However, the lessons I’ve learned throughout this process has helped improve my output while better setting myself up for the future. Also hoping to have entertained you along the way! Here are a few things I’ve noted during my time as a streamer that maybe could be of value to you.

In Third Person is Streaming for Extra Life!

As of last night, select streams will be in service of Extra Life. Best known as an annual 24-hour gaming marathon – taking place this year on Saturday, November 3rd – I will be collecting donations through my streams leading up to the big day. And yes, my friends, family, and I will be broadcasting a 24-hour gaming marathon of our own on twitch.tv/inthirdperson!

100% of the proceeds go to the Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals, who provide 32 million treatments to children each year in the United States and Canada. I generally donate to my local Sick Kids Hospital when I can, but this is an opportunity to use this platform to help raise awareness and provide resources for children that need it most on a scale that I can’t reach alone.

Let’s work together on this! When you get a chance, please make a donation to Extra Life. I’ll do my part in raising awareness through the stream, continuing tonight with the latest episode of Boss Rush! I hope we all have a great time gaming for a cause right up to the big 24-hour gaming marathon and beyond!

Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King Review

Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is clearly a riff on The Legend of Zelda formula. But is that a bad thing? Some may write the game off as a clone at first glance due to its striking similarities with A Link to the Past. However, in a world where Super Mario Bros. and Metroid have had their formulas iterated on thousands of times over by game creators the world over, the Zelda formula seems like largely-uncharted territory by comparison. On top of that, if the derivative game is good based on its own merits, is there really a problem? Blossom Tales wears its influences on its sleeve, but it also tries its best to provide a worthwhile experience while adding its own spin to the mix.
