Poor Ken Masters. As a character, his capabilities are fairly standard issue. However, the sight of Ken is enough to induce a groan from even the most casual Street Fighter fans. It has nothing to do with the character himself, but rather the player using him. There’s a good reason why the term “Flowchart Ken” exists.
With high expectations behind it, it wouldn’t be difficult for the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum to fall short. If anything, it would be easier for Rocksteady to fall short with the sequel than it would be to equal or surpass the original. Arkham Asylum was a fantastic (and arguably revolutionary) game for its time. To this day, I’ll still gush over how amazing that game was (and still is).
Now that the groundwork is set, let’s talk about what people really want to know. Riddle me this, riddle me that, is Batman: Arkham City really all that?
I love analytics. As someone who works in the online advertising industry, I find the process of analyzing numbers and deriving insights from those numbers to be very interesting. Although WordPress.com has a very limited analytics dashboard, I still check the numbers multiple times a day to see how everything is doing.
For the fun of it, I thought I’d write a mini-report of sorts to share with you some of the insights I’ve gathered about you and those who frequent this site. I sort of did this about a year ago, but I thought it’d be fun to try and make a persona model of you, the In Third Person reader. I understand that you’re all unique people, but the purpose of this exercise is to try and boil you down into one main archetype based on the numbers I have available to me. How does this match up to you?
It’s usually that time of the month when I’d write about In Third Person’s top 5 posts for the month. I don’t want to do that anymore, because I don’t think it told that interesting of a story. I don’t think it benefits anyone when I write about the same 5 or 6 top posts every month that just so happen to be Google aggregate favourites (I’m looking at you, Gaming’s Definitive Moustaches).
Instead, I thought I’d do something more interesting with the numbers. Let me know if you enjoy this format better!
In Third Person has come a long way from its humble roots as my pet project that was lucky to get 10 hits a day. While it’s still very much a pet project, the site is fortunate enough to reach an audience of thousands of visitors a month. Ever since the WordPress front page promo, thousands of visitors every month manage to find their way to my little slice of the internet. To say that this was all part of the plan would be a lie. I’m still surprised to see the number of views my posts get and the number of great conversations I have with readers in the comments.
Instead of simply riding the tides to wherever it takes me, I’d like to set a 2012 goal for In Third Person.
April 2011 was quite the month for hot gaming topics. On the news front, Sony and Nintendo dominated discussion around the Internet, as PSN was shut down for over a week due to hackers and Nintendo officially revealed their plans for a new home console in 2012. As for the games, any month featuring Portal 2 and the new Mortal Kombat is a good month in my books.
In spite of April’s hot topics, none of my posts regarding those topics made this month’s top 5 In Third Person posts. If those didn’t garner the most traffic, then what did?
With the Nintendo 3DS set to hit North America in a matter of days, it’s time to close the books on the Nintendo system that could. Who knew that the ugly and under-powered Nintendo DS would end up becoming one of the best-selling systems of all-time? Who knew the device would actually usher in a new era of casual gaming?
Though I’ll confess to not having played my DS in a very long time, I bought a ton of games for it during its hey day and had a lot of great memories with it. Before moving into the next era of handheld gaming, I thought I’d close things out by listing off my top 5 favourite Nintendo DS games.
I hope your month of love was a good one. Despite me having to dial down the daily content (and the time I spend gaming) due to real life, it’s still awesome to see so many people hit this site on a monthly basis. I’ll still keep writing as often as possible.

When it comes to blogging, the key to success is consistency. The vast majority of blogs fail because their authors either post too inconsistently and/or abandon their blog completely. For the past few months, I’ve worked really hard to update this blog on a daily basis. Keeping up this pace has helped grow the reach of In Third Person from a few hundred visits a month to a few thousand.
For those of you that have come to expect a post from me every day, I may have some bad news for you.
The late 2010 success of In Third Person continued into the new year. While my blog will never reach the heights of an IGN or Kotaku, In Third Person has grown from a site with a few dozen visitors a month to a few thousand, which is really damn good for a pet project I do in my spare time. If you keep visiting, I’ll keep writing!
