Early Impressions of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2 was the main reason I picked up a PlayStation 3. Based on everything I saw and heard about this game, this was one of those games that I could not miss. Before I got around to this though, I decided to play Uncharted 1, which was really good, but flawed on a number of levels. If Uncharted 2 were to really live up to the hype for me, it would have a lot of obstacles to overcome that soured me on the first game.

Pick Up Post: NHL 11

When my girlfriend bought her PlayStation 3, she got it in a bundle that included inFamous and NHL 11. She may give inFamous a shot someday, but there’s no way you’d ever get her to play NHL 11. Hockey simulations just aren’t her thing. Instead of selling it, I offered to take it off of her hands, which I did eventually in a trade. I got NHL 11, and I bought her a copy of the Saw video game in exchange, which she’s wanted to play for a long time now.

Out Now: Mass Effect 2 for the PlayStation 3

For all of the gamers who only own a PlayStation 3, I have a job for you. Now that Mass Effect 2 is out, I need you to play it. Buy a copy in the store. Download it through the PlayStation Network. Rent it from Blockbuster. As long as you don’t bootleg it, I don’t really care how you go about playing this game. But please, do yourself a favour, and play this game.

Pick Up Post – Dragon Age: Origins

Humans are creatures of habit. We stick with what we know and we generally don’t like to deviate from that. However, you’ll never know what awesome things you’re missing out on if you don’t reach outside of your comfort zone. One of my favourite examples of me reaching out of my comfort zone has nothing to do with games. Just over a year ago, my girlfriend Steff introduced me to Thai food. Mmm…

As far as games go, the biggest jump I made out of my comfort zone in recent memory was Mass Effect. Having heard so many great things about this series, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and give this action RPG a shot. Needless to say, it made quite the impression on me.

Game Design Talk: My Dilemma With inFamous

inFamous is one of the games that motivated me to buy a PlayStation 3. To me, this looked like a cooler version of Crackdown, which I liked quite a bit. I’ve had this game in my collection for the past few months, but I’ve only been playing it on and off for the last few weeks.

Despite being fun to play, I’m having a really hard time motivating myself to play this game. It’s not the gameplay mechanics that turn me off, but the context behind those gameplay elements.

Heavy Rain Review

For a game I’ve been dying to play all year, I’ve taken my sweet time to get around to it. For starters, I’ve only had a PlayStation 3 since September. Even then, that’s given me months to pick this game up. I’ve come very close to buying it on my own many times, but have consistently passed on it for ‘safer’ games, like Uncharted and God of War.

Thankfully, my girlfriend righted this wrong I set months ago by giving this to me as a Christmas present. Having played it to completion, I’m mad at myself for not having played this game earlier. Heavy Rain is one of the most refreshing and unique games I’ve ever played.

X-Men Arcade Review

It’s scary to me to think about how old this game is. Though this game will forever be linked to my childhood, I’m sure that this game is alien to 95% of gamers who weren’t born in the mid-80s or earlier. This game lived and died in the early 90s as a 4-player or 6-player arcade cabinet and was never legally available anywhere else…until now.

If you’ve played this game during the hey day of the arcades, I do not need to sell you on it. You know enough to judge whether or not you’re ready to spend money on this experience again. For everyone else, here’s what you’ve missed out on (or what you’ll get if you decide to pick this up).

Am I Ready for Dead Space 2?

The hype train for Dead Space 2 has been gradually building for the past year or so. While the original game got off to a slow sales start, it eventually sold really well and won a lot of people over. I for one gave the game a shot around this time last year and was very impressed. Almost too impressed in a way. You see, that game was so good at being scary that I couldn’t handle the fear anymore.

2010 Year in Review: Favourite Game of the Year vs. Best Game of the Year

I’m at a crossroads. I’ve been here for quite a while. We as gamers were spoiled this year, with zero slowdown in quality output. There was no lull or dry spell in gaming releases this year; we got top-quality products all-year round.

With that said, I’ve been at a crossroads because two games stand head and shoulders above the competition to me. I’ve been flip-flopping back and forth on which one I think deserves the overall game of the year title, but I just can’t do it. This isn’t necessarily a bad problem to have, but if you’re expecting one be-all-end-all game of the year choice from In Third Person, I just can’t do it this year. Instead, I present to you my Favourite Game of 2010 and my choice for Best Game of 2010.

Ubisoft to Fix Animus Glitch in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood With Latest Patch

They may be two months late, but Ubisoft finally listened to me. Well, at least to a number of people like me who have been having a number of issues with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. On their Facebook page, Ubisoft announced that they’ll be fixing a number of issues with the game, including the Animus glitch that I ran into. All of these fixes will appear in Title Update 3, which doesn’t have a release date yet, but Ubisoft claims will be out very soon.
