Celeste – Chapter 3: Celestial Resort

We come across Mr. Oshiro and his hotel in third chapter of Celeste! I love how the mess in the hotel and the bags strewn about represent the emotional baggage that keeps Mr. Oshiro tied down to this hotel. One of the best levels in the game with phenomenal music that builds up with crazy drum solos!

I apologize for the encoder crapping out towards the end of this clip, which threw my voice out of sync. Still trying to sort through that issue, but I think I’m getting closer to squashing it once and for all!

Streaming and My Lip Sync Battle Part 2

Remember that time when I told you that I finally figured out what the problem was on my stream? And that I knew how to fix it? Yeah, I was wrong about that last part.

10 Years of In Third Person: Growing Pains

2018 was a year of growth for In Third Person. From expanding to Twitch, to ramping up my social media presence, to connecting with friends old and new, to raising money for children in need as part of Extra Life, the In Third Person experience ballooned dramatically. Coming from a place where I created and maintained the blog for the nine previous years with no ambitions of reaching an audience beyond myself, it was definitely a shock to the system.

In fact, it’s a shock that I’m still reeling from well into 2019. Despite the many successes of last year, I can’t shake this sense of unease that has taken over me when thinking about what this passion project has become. After lots of introspection and a private conversation or two with others about this dilemma, I finally think I know the root issue.

Notes from the Mortal Kombat 11 Gameplay Reveal Event

We got our first real glimpse at its gameplay, expanded variation system, story prologue, and more! Not going to provide a comprehensive rundown here, but I’ll highlight a few notes that I thought were worth noting!

What Video Games Could I Play Well as Part of a Bird Box Challenge?

Just before 2018 ended, the Netflix movie Bird Box took the world by storm. Set in a world where opening your eyes while outdoors will cause you to end your own life, the people in this movie often move from one place to the next while blindfolded. This has sparked a Bird Box challenge in the real world, where people have done all sorts of stupid stuff while blindfolded. So much so, that YouTube has now banned all dangerous stunts from the platform.

The recent phenomenon of blindfolding yourself while doing an activity got me thinking. What video games could I not completely suck at while blindfolded? The list I came up with is…pretty short.

Double Jump vs. In Third Person in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu! This Time, It’s Personal…

Click to watch the full video! twitch.tv/xdoublejump!

Last night, Kris from Double Jump continued her Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu adventure on Twitch. After she was done chipping away at the main campaign, she invited me on for a rematch!

We had some awesome battles, but I think the best part of hanging out with Kris was the conversation we had. During the battle and well after it was over, we just chatted for a long time and that was even more entertaining! The conversation went everywhere, from Bird Box, to Wonder Woman, Britney Spears, crazy hair styles, nightmare tales from our past retail jobs, my most epic fart, that time Kris almost lost an eye, and more! Kris and Rachel, we need to figure out how to make this off-topic chat a thing. Doesn’t matter if it’s your channel or mine, or if it only occurs once in a blue moon, we have to do it again because it was too much fun not to 😀

Here’s a few highlights to whet your appetite:

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Review

Modern Tomb Raider has been one of my favourite franchises of the past few years, but there are aspects of its first two games that prevented them from being universally celebrated. The first was a commercial hit and a game I enjoyed a lot, but it also leaned a bit too heavily on the Uncharted playbook. I felt that the sequel took the right steps towards bringing the game back towards its roots, but it was still a bit too heavy on the gun play and the game was largely overlooked due to it being a timed Xbox One exclusive. Third time’s a charm? Shadow of the Tomb Raider closes out this era of Lara Croft with an adventure that is as high stakes as it gets.

Rocket League Goes Cross-Platform!

Fortnite opened the doors for cross-platform play in 2018. Now it’s Rocket League‘s turn. Psyonix announced today that their amazing car soccer game is playable across any combination of Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch players! Up until now, PlayStation 4 was segregated from the others.

Really hoping that all multiplayer games going forward are cross-compatible. At this point, its been proven to work on a technical level. It’s only been businesses protecting their best interests that have kept the gates up for so long. This is a great step forward and I hope we get more news like this in 2019! In particular, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Overwatch to make the leap!
