Jett vs. AceUnlimited: The Street Fighter IV Salty Runback

The last time I ran into AceUnlimited, who is the #1 ranked Guy player on PSN, I felt like I put up a pretty good fight. Granted, in the six matches we played, I did not win once, but I think I hung in there pretty well. In particular, the first match in our set came down to the wire. To be honest, I’ve been a bit salty about it ever since.

As luck would have it, we would run into each other again on XBOX Live. Would the salt running through my veins be enough to power me to victory against the same person that bodied me convincingly the last time we played?

Out Now: PlayStation Vita

One of the year’s biggest video game launches is upon us. The PlayStation Vita is coming out swinging by providing the most powerful handheld gaming experiences to date. It also doesn’t hurt that the launch lineup is fairly solid as well.  Though the Vita has been struggling to sell in Japan, maybe North American audiences will be more willing to pony up $250-300 for  one. I’m very curious to see how the system is received on this side of the world. Are you picking one up today? Or do you already have one in your hands and want to tell the world about it? Let’s talk in the comments!

Dominion by Donald X. Vaccarino for iPhone/iPad Review

My love of video games has historically not translated well into other forms of gaming. When it comes to card games, I don’t play anything more complicated that Klondike Solitaire. As far as designer card games go, anything beyond Uno I either classify as too complicated, too boring or too nerdy for my tastes.

While I still hold that general sentiment around card games (designer card games in particular), I fell in love with Dominion not too long ago. My girlfriend invited me to a game night hosted by one of her coworkers, and we spent all night playing Dominion. What surprised me most about the game was how easy it was to learn while exhibiting a great level of depth. I told Steff multipe times as we were playing it that the mechanics that drive Dominion scratches an itch that I normally get out of Street Fighter.

Immediately after our first game, I searched the iTunes app store to find a Dominion equivalent. To my surprise, it’s available as a free download. While you won’t need to read my review to decide if it’s worth your money, you may want to see if Dominion on the iPhone is worth your time.

Universal Fighting Game Guide: How to Transition From Control Pad to Fightstick

For most of my fighting game playing life, I played fighting games with a control pad. It was what I was most comfortable with and I had no interest in learning how to play these games with any other control method. However, in 2010, I felt like I was ready to switch to a fightstick. There was a steep learning curve to it, but I’m glad that I ultimately made the switch.

I know there are a lot of people out there making the transition in hopes of upping their game. Making the switch isn’t an easy process, but I’m hoping that this post may help you ease into a fightstick if/when you decide to give it a go.

Early Thoughts on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Despite the series success over the years, critics of the Zelda series have knocked it for being too formulaic. I don’t play enough Zelda games to feel that way, but I understand the point. With that said, I loved Twilight Princess and still believe that Ocarina of Time is one of the greatest video games of all-time.

Going into Skyward Sword, I was super-excited to jump back into the land of Hyrule to save the princess and save the world. As of writing, I’m at the front steps of the second dungeon, and my excitement has cooled off considerably.

The Best of Sako Street Fighter IV Compilation

I have no shortage of idols when it comes to Street Fighter IV. However, when it comes to choosing my favourite Street Fighter IV player, that honour belongs to Sako. Thanks to his creativity, extremely offensive approach and his masterful execution, Sako is arguably the most exciting player to watch. I never get bored of watching Sako destroy his opponents in the most creative and technically challenging ways imaginable. I’d go as far as saying that watching Sako play as Cammy and Rose is the reason why I use them as my two main characters today.

Thanks to YouTube user AnomuraSe, you can now get the Coles notes video of why Sako rocks. This 20-minute Best of Sako video has some of the most incredible displays of offensive firepower ever caught on tape. Click through to watch the video! Also, let me know what you think of it in the comments!

Jett vs. AceUnlimited, the #1 Ranked Guy Player on PSN Street Fighter IV

Me reaching #1 for Rose and Cammy in my country is pretty impressive. Reaching #1 in the world? Slow-clap worthy. In the thousands of online Street Fighter IV matches I’ve played over the years, I’ve never run into a #1 ranked player until recently.

AceUnlimited is the #1 ranked Guy on PSN. I ran into him in ranked match and we fought each other a number of times that night. Enclosed in this post is the entirety of our set. I’ve taken out some giants in my day, but did I bite off more than I could chew on this one? Click through to find out!

Coming Soon – Valentine’s Day Massacre Jett vs. Steff in Deadliest Warrior: Legends

Last year on In Third Person, Steff and I celebrated Valentine’s Day with a cute post where she recommended games that are great for couples to play together. This year, we took the next logical step. On February 14, 2012, Steff and I will be battling to the death in Deadliest Warrior: Legends, because nothing is more romantic than William Wallace severing your limbs with a giant sword. You can watch the blood, sweat and saltiness right here on In Third Person!

Early Impressions of Ico

One of the last EGM issues I ever bought was the issue when Ico was declared game of the month. They wrote about it as if it was a game that came out of nowhere and won them over in a big way. Based on what I read at the time, I thought the game wouldn’t be interested in. Even if I were interested at the time, I was a devout Nintendo fanboy, so going out of my way to play Ico on the PlayStation 2 just wasn’t an option.

Years have passed, console allegiances have dissolved and interest has piqued, which is why I find myself writing about my time playing Ico from the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection. 10+ years later, is Ico still a game worth playing?
