9 Tips to Improve Your Charity Stream and Get More Donations!

Thinking about hosting a charity stream? This video might help take that show to the next level! Having done a few charity streams now, I take a moment to share a few things I’ve learned to help make my charity streams a success. Hopefully these 9 tips will do the same for you!

As a heads-up, this video will serve as a “season finale” of sorts. My one month buffer of videos has officially depleted and some of the upcoming videos I want to make are going to require a bit more lead time. I really don’t want to be in a position where I’m scrambling every week to put out a less-than-stellar video in order to continue posting weekly. So I won’t.

Instead, the series is going to go on hiatus for a month or so while I tinker away in the background. Part of this next round of videos will include board game content, which I’m incredibly excited to bring into the fold. You’ll be the first to know when the videos are coming back. For now though, enjoy this one! And thank you to everyone who has watched any of these videos to-date! I appreciate your time and support.

Are Genre Enthusiasts in Decline Within the World of Video Games?

I am a fighting game enthusiast. So much so, that I’ve bought a sizable portion of fighting games released in the last 10 years. This includes pretty much every main stage title at EVO, a number of deep cut indie fighters, genre oddballs, and even some that I know are flat-out bad. Right now, I’m playing Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r], a game that is alien to even most fighting game fans. In modern times, sampling this many games within a genre feels like an anomaly.

While I think that players still have their preferences, my gut says the total number of players who actually sample a wider selection of titles that a genre has to offer is in decline.

My Ring Fit Adventure Workout Playlist

Just like any other workout routine, keeping up with Ring Fit Adventure continues to be a challenge. I have a great time every time I play, but carving the time out of my day to workout has been difficult. Nevertheless, it’s still in rotation and I’m hope to find the willpower to keep going.

Part of that motivation comes from my workout mix. Still very much a work in progress, but I play with the TV on mute and I blast my own tunes. Here’s a sampling of what’s currently on my Ring Fit Adventure workout mix!

Twitch vs. YouTube: Comparing the Processes Behind Making Live Streaming Content vs. Pre-Produced Content

My big focus for 2020 is video content. I want to continue growing as a streamer on Twitch while also establishing a presence in the realm of pre-produced YouTube content. For those who’ve taken the time to check out my streams or my recent run at YouTube content, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Both platforms require creators to work with video, but the processes for creating content for each are very different. Here’s what I’ve learned so far based on my time working with both.

The Pros and Cons of Becoming a Twitch Affiliate

For many Twitch streamers, attaining Affiliate status is a major milestone. It allows streamers to generate revenue from Twitch’s built-in tools while also acting as status symbol. You don’t have to browse very far in the world of gaming social media to find streamers that prominently display the title in their profiles. Heck, reaching that level was so important to me at one point that I went down a depressive spiral during my quest.

When the invite to join Twitch Affiliate finally came in, I pounced on it. But is that the right move for everyone? Probably not. Though I’m no longer weighed down by the stress of not having Twitch Affiliate, having the status hasn’t magically transformed me into a better or more important creator. It’s also limited my options in a few key ways. Here are some things you should know before you accept the deal.

This is Why We Play – A Recap of the Extra Life: SickKids 2020 Kick-Off Party

Last week, myself and many others made the trip to SickKids Hospital in Toronto for the annual Extra Life Kick-Off party. It served as an opportunity for existing guild members to reconnect and for newcomers to learn how to get involved. Most importantly, it was an opportunity for all of us to reflect on why our fundraising efforts are so important.

Don’t Underestimate Your Impact on the Gaming Community

A recent interaction I had with my 3-year-old nephew got me thinking about our impact on others within the gaming community. Through gaming, the influence of others has greatly shaped me into the person I am now. Odds are, I’ve had a major impact on others through this mutual hobby as well. We all have the power to make a difference in the lives of our family, friends, and fellow gamers through our words and actions. What will you do with that power?

This one started out as a personal anecdote with no real direction. However, as I got going, it felt like an opportunity to discuss how one voice can really make a difference. Adding some of my parents home footage of me and my brother gaming as kids really added to that point. Stick around to the very end to see the moment when I got a Super Nintendo for my birthday! In retrospect, that moment really changed my life!

I Love You 3,000 – This is In Third Person’s 3,000th Post

In the midst of creating content to celebrate In Third Person’s 10-year anniversary, I noticed that we were nearing another milestone. That milestone is now.

This is post #3,000.

Not really sure what to say here, as I kind of spent all of 2019 celebrating the site’s longevity. However, it feels like a missed opportunity if I don’t acknowledge it in some way.

(pauses for 20 minutes to think of an angle)

How about this?

KEEP COLLECTING AMIIBO! Why it’s still worth getting these Nintendo figurines!

The Amiibo hype train certainly isn’t what it used to be. Even so, that hasn’t stopped me from building my collection! Everyone’s reasons are different, but I thought I’d share my rationale for collecting Amiibo figures to this day!

This video was so fun to make! Spent way too long capturing slo-mo clips; most of which didn’t make it into the final cut. Will be sharing a lot of these slo-mo clips separately on social media!

I tried streaming on Mixer. Here are my notes.

Wanting to be taken more seriously in the world of streaming, Mixer sent shockwaves throughout the industry by getting the exclusive rights for streaming’s biggest star. The platform still has a lot of work to do before truly becoming a rival to the likes of Twitch and YouTube, but moves like the Ninja signing have gone a long way towards building name recognition. At the very least, when people discuss streaming platforms, Mixer is usually mentioned on that list as an equal.

Recently, I streamed on Mixer as part of a stability test for my ISP. Because I was having issues streaming to Twitch and YouTube, they wanted me to try Mixer in hopes that they could isolate my network issues to something relating to RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol). Twitch and YouTube use RTMP, while Mixer uses their propriety FTL (Faster Than Light) technology. Here are my notes from that experience.
